When doing a middle-of-the-night RCI Points search on Sunday, I found a lot of very desirable exchanges in Florida, with check-in dates of January 23 and January 30. I attempted to place one on hold, and to confirm the other. The first time I received a message that the unit could not be confirmed because of the "status" of my account. HUH? I have 198,000 Points available and my membership fees are paid through 2012.
I tried again about 10 minutes later and went through the usual process of confirming one of the weeks, entering my credit card info, and checking that I agreed to the terms and conditions, etc... Then I clicked on the "Submit" button and waited and waited and waited. Nothing happened. So I logged off and came back to the website through another browser. When I tried to confirm the same week, I got the "status problem" message.
I thought that RCI opened at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time on Sunday, so I set the alarm clock and got up at 9:20 to call and find out what the "status problem" was all about. The first VG said that she couldn't see any problem on my account. I asked her a general question and she gave me an "I think" answer. I politely told her I needed a definite answer. She politely asked if she could put me on hold so that she could obtain the answer from her supervisor. And suddenly we were disconnected.
I called back and spoke with another VG who was obviously more experienced and competent. She told me that she thinks there was something wrong with the computer system because tons of people had called in on Saturday saying they were unable to confirm weeks they saw on-line. She was able to see the same weeks and confirm them easily. She seemed not to want to outright state that it was a computer glitch. She told me more than once that she was surmising something was wrong with the computer system based upon the unusually high number of calls she received on Saturday from people who said they had trouble doing it themselves.
I then found out that the RCI phone lines now open at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. I don't know how long ago the change was made. For years it was 9:30 a.m.. But, bottom line, the two weeks I was interested in, were gone by the time I called at 9:30 a.m..
I bet they make sure there is no such computer screw ups with the weeks in the rental programs.
I asked the VG how I can get on RCI's "do not call list" because the annoying messages keep coming--the ones where you press a number to agree to receive future calls but there is no option to press a number to opt out. I was put on hold for about 5 minutes and then told that my number was now excluded. We'll see. If not I will file a complaint with the FTC.
I find something new to hate about RCI anytime I am forced to call them.
