Will this idea for giving back my timeshare work?

Greetings,

I purchased a 3 BR 3 BA EOYO fixed unit week 25 at Mystic Dunes Resort in Celebration, Florida in 2001. It is paid off and the maintenance fees are current. I asked the developer if they would be willing to cancel the contract or take the timeshare back. They said no and that I need to sell/give it away on my own.

I will be vacationing in Orlando in December (staying on Disney property) and am contemplating selling my Mystic Dunes timeshare for $1 to the visitors that are actively listening to the timeshare sales presentation. Why spend $20,000 when you can spend $1? If I get escorted out, I would stand just outside the gate holding a huge sign saying, "Timeshare for FREE!"

I doubt the sales people would want this type of negative attention and would do anything to get me off of the property, including taking back my timeshare. What do you guys think? I'm guessing someone has already suggested this before so I apologize in advance for the repost.

I was in the office at my timeshare, when I overheard someone asking about purchasing another week. I offered jimmy two weeks. I also got up and mentioned it at the meet and greet. That was a Sunday and by Wednesday I had our signatures notarized and the check in the bank.

Sales have no authority to accept a deed back. You would actually need to find someone wanting the timeshare. Sales can ask you to leave their area and or have you escorted away. The pool or general resort area is the best place to try to talk up someone n e who recently went on an update and may want to take you up on you $1 offer.

Is mystic dunes DRI? If so did you try the number or email in the DRI post about accepting deed backs?

I agree with the observation above that no sales weasel on the premises actually has the authority to "take back" your timeshare in the first place; that is certainly "above their pay grade". "Deedback" acceptance is ultimately decided and processed either at the corporate level or directly with the current property HOA / BoD.

It's not a truly terrible idea to attempt to find a willing new "grantee" in the proactive manner you propose, if you're willing to invest the time and effort (and assuming that you actually know exactly when and where the piranha tank feedings take place). That being said, I'm sure that you can understand and appreciate that incoming lemmings might be very reluctant / suspicious of you and your "sign" and it might be difficult to convince people of your legitimacy. You might even want to have a copy of your deed right on hand, in the event that you do manage to capture someone's interest.

Finally, if you go through with this idea, I respectfully suggest that you be very careful not to in any way obstruct or impede the comings and goings of anyone on the premises, nor engage in any loud shouting exchanges with any sales weasels or any other personnel on site who confront you (and likely ask you to leave immediately). They might even opt to just call the Police without confronting you at all, asserting that you are already physically obstructing their conduct of business on site and / or disturbing the peace. You don't want this to end up with you answering a disturbing the peace charge in local court, as unlikely as that development might be.

P.S. I would suggest first joining TUG (this site) and try to give away your unwanted ownership in the "Bargain Deals" section. You'll get lots more exposure with considerably less time and effort (...and drama) than a show performance on site at the resort during your valuable vacation time in December. Certainly worth a try for a paltry $15 membership fee and two minutes of time to prepare and post a more detailed description (annual maintenance fee amount, next available usage, etc.). You still have a few months to see if that approach might succeed before your December travel. Just a suggestion...

Mystic Dunes is a link in the DRI timeshare chain.

Plenty of TUG folks report getting DRI to accept deedbacks of paid-off DRI timeshares, for a small fee.

Click here for that TUG-BBS discussion topic.

Full Disclosure: We deeded back a different paid-off DRI timeshare (not Mystic Dunes) in 2014.

To the OP, please call DRI Migration Office and ask them this deedback question. Do it ASAP because you may have to pay 2017 Maintenance Fees to be eligible for the 2016 program. .

Thank you everyone for your advice and input. I truly appreciate it. I did post my timeshare on tug last night which introduced me to this great forum. If I do follow through with this approach in December, my goal is to make it a peaceful one.

You need to read the thread

http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224859

For $250 DRI will take back your TS from you. No need to do anything else, Just just email them and in a few weeks they will send you paperwork and then about 4 weeks later done.

DO IT ( I did last year)

DRI took back my Mystic Dunes timeshare through the Loss Mitigation process discussed in that long thread - you should not have any problems! Good luck.

Fwiw, I do not see your Mystic Dunes offering posted anywhere in TUG's "Bargain Deals" forum. Assuming that you are giving away the no-longer-wanted ownership, that is certainly the best place to offer it (...if you are not pursuing the easier and faster DRI "deedback" option for some reason).

I am not interested in the ownership. I just wanted to note that I do not see your offer posted on TUG, contrary to your above (blue highlighted) statement.
