"You know a film is a hit when a tourism office or a hotel marketing company starts suggesting a vacation inspired by it (e.g., “50 Shades of Grey” hotel packages and “Hunger Games” tours of Atlanta).

But these can have a forced feel. There is a way to extend the feeling of seeing a movie by traveling to a place that calls to mind the themes it covers.

This year, in time for the Oscars, we’ve put together a list of such destinations for each of the eight films nominated for best picture.

This year's crop covers significant emotional ground. From the real Texas locations in “Boyhood” to the fictional European ones in “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” the nominees traverse a good amount of physical territory as well. For our list, some places match directly with locations shown in the film, while others evoke the spirit of their movies’ narratives..."

Not an Oscar nominee, but...

"My Old Lady" with Kevin Kline and Maggie Smith inspired me to figure out a way to return to Paris for a couple of nights prior to an upcoming Fjords cruise out of Southampton. YYZ-KEF-CDG-ORY-SOU followed by 2 timeshare weeks in Yorkshire and the Lakes District returning out of MAN.
