I am hoping that I didn't do too badly. I found a clearance item on Sumday for $30 with no other transfer fees or other costs. It is a 79,000 RCI point unit for Fairway Forest at Sapphire Valley. It is located in the Blue Ridge mountains. I realize that maintenance fees may be a little high at $819. I also have Redweek 32 (fixed) for August 8-15.

Annual usage for 2014 and billed 2015 on Jan 1. I am assuming that this means that there will be those 2014 points available....

I am hesitant to ask, but what are your thoughts...... Did I do ok?

You did fine The general rule of thumb here is a penny a rci point mf is pretty good, and you are just ever so slightly over that...so close that it really doesnt make much difference

If the 2014 points are there for you, all the better

You did OK. Remember that with RCI Points, it's an either/or deal. You get the points credited on an anniversary (mine is like April 1), OR you get 7 nights in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Not both, or a few of the points and a few nights.

Welcome to the world of RCI Points.

Ok great. Thank you for your responses. :) Jim mentioned only staying a few nights. While I was tinkering around in the RCI portal, I was seeing mostly 1 week stays. What if we only wanted to do a long weekend? Do only certain resorts do this? What if I wanted to check in on a different day than the dates listed as check in days? Do I need to contact the resort I want to stay with directly for this? Sorry for the dumb questions, but I have to ask......

You can make Points ressies at Points resorts for shorter stays. Usually there is the exchange fee to RCI, the point cost, which is higher than 1/7th of a week stay per night, plus a housekeeping fee to the resort. With Last Calls, that is an all-in cash cost for a week. 7 nights. If you want to come in late, just call the resort and tell them when you'll check in, or if you want to leave early, just go.

So you are telling me in the long run it's cheaper to just book the week stay even if I leave early or come a day or so later?

That's been my experience.

Pretty much if you're using RCI Last Call or Extra Vacations (particularly when there is a sale.) I wouldn't book my home week and only stay a few days... I could use those points for another vacation.
