Need recommendation for Gatlinburg- Wyndham or Westgate

Hi Tuggers,

I need a recommendation. My wife, three teen-age sons and I will be traveling through the Gatlinburg area in a couple of weeks for 3 or 4 nights. We have an option of either staying at Westgate Smoky Mountain resort or Wyndham Smoky Mountains. This is between a stays in Chicago and Myrtle Beach. I've read mostly favorable reviews about both resorts with the Wyndham usually higher. The Westgate is $200 cheaper and seems better located for trips to the mountains.

Does anyone have experience with both of these resorts?

I have stayed at both resorts

Both resorts are very nice, but if your main interest is in trips to the mountains the Westgate is about 15 to 20 minutes closer to the park. The Westgate location is just outside of Gatlinburg near the bypass. It is very steep up the hill to the upper units, but some of them have good views. There is a small water park at the Westgate and I think that Westgate may now have a resort fee.

Some people just hate Westgate. DON'T DO A TIMESHARE TOUR.

I've only stayed at the Wyndham, but love it. However, if the Park is your destination, Westgate has a better location.

Keep in mind the westgate resort has a per person charge to use the water park.
