Booking a stay at the Aruba Surf Club for next spring. Have the option of oceanfront or oceanside - a difference of 150 points per night. Is oceanfront worth the additional points or will I be just as happy with oceanside? I've looked at the resort maps to try and get an idea. A nice water view is very important to those traveling. I think we would be happy with a oceanside pool view, but not sure about the side facing the Ocean Club. Thanks in advance.

If this was a question about the Ocean Club I would say absolutely not worth it because the views are pretty darn good from almost everywhere and as a Marriott owner you aren't likely to get stuck with one of the views from h---.

That said there are also no distance issues to the beach at the OC.

Depending on where you end up at the Surf, you can have a very wide range of views and if distance is a problem you can also be quite a bit away from the beach. For those reasons I would spend the extra points personally but ymmv.

All OS and OF rooms are in the same building- so distance to the beach is a non-issue. That said, like the rooms at the Ocean Club that face the Surf Club, the rooms on the N side of the Lighthouse building on the lower floors that face the OC have impeded views. The Ocean front rooms have gorgeous views. If you decide to opt for Oceanside, request poolside, high floor, in that order. Using DC points you are at a lower priority so make sure you have poolside and you'll be fine even on a lower floor

Thanks so much, this really helps! Went ahead and reserved the oceanfront room. I think it will be well worth the extra points!

Beckster I know you already made your decision but just wanted to give you a thumbs up. We own 3 different views and this is by far my favorite. Any floor would be terrific. Whenever I need to relax I just think of sitting on the oceanfront balcony and I've used a photo from our oceanfront villa as wallpaper on my ipad. Enjoy your trip!

Beckster - good choice. Oceanfront is worth the premium, especially if you put value on your view and spend time out on the lanai. Make sure you have comfortable shoes though, you have the best view, but the LONGEST walk to the elevator - especially if you are going to the beach.

If you are in a lower floor though, you can take the stairs down quite easily. Stairs up - well, that's up to you.

Have fun!

Hope you enjoy your trip as much as we do!
btw- while furthest from the elevator, it's not a big deal. My 88 year old Mom has no issue when we have a room close to the front of the building. Well worth the view :)!!

Love the Ocean Front rooms HATE the noise at night from Moomba beach bar. I have a difficult time sleeping with any noise so this may not be an issue for you. I honestly prefer the Ocean View in the Spyglass tower (facing the ocean)on a high floor. Great view of the pool and ocean. We had 4805/4806 in 2014 and were very pleased. I believe it was top (or close) floor dead center.

Not worried at all about the walk to the elevator. I'm sure the view is worth it! As for the noise from the bar, how late are we talking here? I am a night owl, and I'm sure with the doors closed and AC running you can't hear much?

Can anyone comment on the recent refurbishments going on at Surf Club? I read on Trip Advisor that they are undergoing their 10 year refurbs, and that the Compass and Lighthouse towers have already been completed. Does anyone know what this entails, or better yet have any pictures of the recent work?

Thanks!!!

I'm a night owl and was never bothered by the Moomba music. It wasn't a problem for my 7yo to get to sleep. I've seen photos of the refurbishment on the private group for Aruba Surf Club on Facebook : new decor, stainless steel appliances, new patio furniture. Very nice! If you are on FB you should check it out.

As far as the noise. I try to be bed by Eleven. I am up at the crack of dawn.. If you are a good sleeper like my hubby (who could sleep on a picket fence next to a freight train) it won't bother you.

I don't belong to Facebook so I can't so I can't comment on the refurbishment schedule. Our room was in great shape.

Have a wonderful trip

Regarding the noise...it will be the loudest on Sunday night by far, so don't think that it will be that loud and that late every night.

Great! We arrive on a Sunday, and head out on Friday. Can't bear to spend the points they charge for Friday/Saturday nights!
