I have no idea, dont use W8, isnt it up to 8.1? That would make it W7 service pack 3 by my count.

Go ahead and believe what you want, I doubt if a new "Chief" has anything to do with how MS patches its code base, no matter how smart he is.

Vista was W7 beta, released early to fill the. MS coffers like Millenium Edition lol.

Couldn't Wind 8.1 also be Vista SP5? Since all versions since Vista are on the same code base.

Obviously the naming is really just for marketing purposes. The numbers in the names don't really relate to their build versions.

Read I must click on the link in the lower right corner to get my free upgrade. This pc has windows 7 Yet, there is no link to click on. The Q&A on the Windows 10 homepage is blank. What next?

Wait, Windows 10 is being pushed out in stages. Not everyone will get it today, this week or even this month.

DIL & Step Son are ranting on about how cool it is to have Cortana on the desktop. (Disclaimer) He leads the Cortana unit & Bing Apps at MS. Could be showing some bias. I'm still waiting a while before I plunge in. That, & I'm not home on my notebook. The tablet is what it is, & that's what I'm on now.

DRI: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.
I was surprised, but I was able to download and install Windows 10 today. Everything seems to work, and with my favorite $5 utility (Start8), it looks and runs just like Windows 7. When you do accidentally enter "tile world", it's much easier to return to "desktop world" than Windows 8.1.
