I just purchased a new windows 10 laptop. On my old computer I have windows office 2010, which I would like to transfer that to my new computer. I checked the price for the new office suite, at $149.00, but I don't use it enough to justify buying that new version. Was wondering if anyone has used those file transfer programs with success?

You cannot just copies files over and make the program run. You would need the original install disks.

Programs need to be installed with the new operating system. You should be able to download the program if you don't have the original disk. But you will need to disable the program off the old computer. Normally, there will be a pop up telling you that you have the program on another computer and it will ask you if you want to disable that program. Once you get the program installed, you need to save your documents from the old computer and transfer them to the new computer. I like to use a flash drive or external hard drive.

I'm sure no expert on this, but it seems to me that you could install Adobe Open Office on the new computer. It's Windows compatible and FREE. Then use a flash drive to move your data files to the new system. Of course if you have your photos and data on MS's One Drive 'the Cloud', you should have access from any computer.

Did you mean Apache Open Office?

Depending on the version of MS Office the OP has, it may include Outlook, which Open Office does not have. Or he may just like his software and want it on his new computer.

I had no problem installing Microsoft Office 2010 Pro on two laptops. I had a Office 2010 download file on my old laptop that I transferred to my new laptop and installed it using my original 25 digit product key. If you don't have the original download file or disk you might be able to download Office 2010 directly from Microsoft's web site, you will need the product key.

Thanks everyone, you all gave me some good advice to look at further. I have office 2010, I really only use word to type up some letters once in a while. I will really look at that Lap Link program and the free one that is comparable with office.
