Hello All:

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with SFX resorts for trading their units? I was told about this company today by a Marriott Rep. and was somewhat surprised since Marriott just renewed their contract with II.

Thanks for any replies.:)

SFX has mostly west coast stuff.

BUT if I owned where you own (Ko Olina) I would never trade in any company other than II. WHY? because you have one of the highest valued TS and only with II will you be able to get even close to the same value if and when you trade.

Good Luck

I trade exclusively with SFX. They have access to timeshares all over the world. I've been to Hawaii, Scotland, NYC, Las Vegas, Smuggler's Notch in VT and many more places through them. I also snagged a bonus week in London for a friend from them. They are relatively small so you won't have as large a selection as with II or RCI. But they are eager to please. If you call and ask what your chances are of getting a specific exchange will be, they will never tell you it's a sure thing, but they will tell you if the chances are slim.

They seem to be strongest in Hawaii, Mexico, and California.

Agreed!

SFX has done well by me so far. We joined again this past year and deposited several weeks. Which reminds me, I need to set some ongoing searches. II has not done well by us over the last year. It's been no fun having ongoing searches with my SBP that just don't match to anything.

No luck to Date

We have one unit deposited in SFX and have yet to get any of our requests. Tried for Hawaii for two different resorts for the month of April. No trade so we got resorts from other Trading companies.
When that didn't work we switched in November to trading for one of their three coastal Oregon Resorts for July or August. No trade yet and when I called the representative told me their was little chance as I needed to request a year or moe in advance to get the resort.
I have seen mostly Mexico and Tahoe opportunities which we are not interested in at this time.
I appreciate the representatives being knowledgable and truthful but unless we get a trade will not use them again.

"only with II will you be able to get even close to the same value if and when you trade."

This is not true IMO for a couple reasons. You have a different concept of the "value" of your TS than anyone else does. If you see something you want to trade for in an area you want to go to then it has value to you.

The unit you're trading for may cost less in MFs than what you pay but so what? Look at reviews and find something you like.

The other reason I don't agree with the statement is that you may very well find something that is high cost like you own.

I understand what Bill is saying if you're just talking dollars and cents but don't miss out on a dream vacation just because you can't find a unit that others value as highly as they do yours.

On the other hand I don't think you should trade for a unit that you could rent for half of what you pay in MFs but sometimes you just cant find a rental where you want to go.

I've always used small exchange companies such as DAE and VRI*ety Exchange and never worried about the relative value of the units being exchanged. There are times I've given up a 2 br and stayed in an efficiency and the other way around.
