For anyone who has stayed there before, do they have beach chairs available for guests to use? If so, in the unit or at the office? Thanks for any help you can give.

As a lowly exchanger into Kingsland, I had asked for beach chairs and was told they don't have any.

Thanks, Melissy. Looks like we'll be stopping at Walmart to buy a couple of cheapies.

A couple of years ago, we wanted to buy some cheap beach chairs while we were there and we couldn't find any cheap ones that were actually CHEAP.

Hi Cat, so good to see you on TUG again. Your turkey brine thread has been revived every year right around Thanksgiving. :D Hope you are doing well!

We stayed at Kohala Suites this past May. When we asked about beach chairs we were told the same thing. Nope, but we could rent them. They gave us the name of a place closer than Snorkel Bob's, but I don't remember where it was. Dh ended up buying a chair at the Waikoloa Village Market that wasn't horrible in price. Then I think we discovered we could have bought a chair for the same price, or less, at the Island Market in the Queen's Shops.

Hi, Lisa!! That's funny about the brine thread. Can't believe it's still here - a major blast from the distant past! Actually, I've now graduated to a dry brine, for the last several years. So much easier, way less messy, and still gives that wonderful tender juiciness, and perfectly seasoned flavor.

Good to see you. I hope life has been treating you kindly.

Luanne, many thanks for the tips on getting chairs. You'd think with an upscale place like that they would have something. Never stayed at a place on the Big Island that didn't have them available. Kinda strange.

You know there is no beach

You could drive up to Hapuna, but get there early, the parking sucks.

There is a beach. Anaeho'omalu Bay. It's known a A Bay.

We do like Hapuna better. Parking is pay now, but you can tell they've used the money to improve the facilities.

Pretty sure Ron meant the resort itself is not right on the beach.. None of the timeshares in Waikaloa have direct beach access.. its a short drive or bit of a walk from the resorts.

We love to snorkel, so we always just get chairs when we pick up our snorkel gear at Bobs.

I don't think there are any timeshare resorts on the Big Island that are on a useable beach.

And since he did mention Hapuna, I wondered if he knew there was a beach in the Waikoloa resort area.

You are correct. And A beach is not walk-able from the TS, so you will have to drive. Since you have to drive, you might as well pick a better beach.

Been to a A beach, not much of a beach, from what I remember it was rocky, ouch. The Marriott portion of the beach was better.

I'm not positive, but don't the shuttles from the HGVC resorts go to A Bay? We never used them so, I'm not sure.

Yes, the shuttle stops at Kings market right across the street from Marriott, an easy walk from there. My wife and I are walkers and we make it all the way to A-Bay and back from Kings Land.

Good turtle sightings at sunset and the shuttle runs until 9pm.

I Google mapped the walking distance from Kingsland to A-Bay and it said about 2 miles. Definitely walkable for dh and I, we walk more than that every morning when we're staying in the Waikoloa resort area.

I don't think I'd mind walking over to the beach in the morning, but not sure how I'd feel about traipsing back, with all my stuff, later in the day when it was warmer.

Its a beautiful walk early in the morning. Enter the Hilton hotel complex at the service road across from Bay Club building 1. Walk out to Buddha Point and take a selfie, follow the paths along the shore through the resort, check out the dolphins. There is a beach trail all the way to A Bay. This is just our exercise walk, if we had beach stuff and planned to stay definitely take the shuttle and pick up lunch stuff at the market in Queens.

My wife likes to collect rocks and shells on that beach, can also find peridot. Its a very course sand mixed with pulverized lava that makes it rough.

Our morning walk is similar to yours. Out the main road from Kohala Suites, to the service road, past Buddha Point, over the bridge with a stop to check for fish and eels, visit the dolphins and end up at the coffee place at the end of the boat run. After we've had coffee we'll walk back through the hotel, exit at the lobby and take the main road back. I'm a great morning walker if I know coffee is involved.

I didn't know there was a shortcut to the Hilton from Bay Club?

Is the access really that easy? Wow, that is good to know. Thanks!

Best,

Greg

Oh yes, the access is really that easy. Sometimes the gate is closed, but you can easily walk around it. We've been using that back entrance for years.

I'm not so sure it's a shortcut, depending on where in the Hilton you want to go. As I said on our walk we go in the back service entrance, and then come out through the lobby. But that's mostly so we're doing a loop and not back tracking.
