Are there any MVC in Detroit or close by? Or any in II that are good? It's a destination my husband would like to visit? Alternatively if it could be reached within a few hours drive where else could we stay?

No MVC in Detroit or nearby. Not sure what might be available through II. Of course, I'm sure there are numerous Marriott hotel properties in the area.
According to the II directory, there really are not any II timeshares close to Detroit. Closest are about 200 miles away in central Michigan, northern Indiana, and central Ohio. Nearest MVC is 700 to 800 miles.
The Detroit area is not really a vacation destination, and timeshares tend to congregate where people vacation. Your best bet is to just use hotels.
Being a former Michigander, there would not be many Michigan II resorts I would recommend other than The Inn at Bay Harbor in Petoskey, or a few in Traverse City (Cherry Tree, Tamarack Lodge, or Points North). All of which are in beautiful touristy areas on Lake Michigan, but are about 4 hours north of Detroit. Not sure what your husband wants to see in Motown, but I couldn't see spending more than a night or two there and then head north perhaps to one of the areas listed above.

I would agree about Detroit. Have been there many times. Unless you want to gamble at one of the casinos, there isn't much else there tourism wise. Though there are some great things to see doing a circle around the state hitting all of the great quaint lighthouses.

Think of the opportunity for Marriott. Normally timeshares are put out in the boonies where the price of land is lower and larger parcels are available. But in Detroit, there are big industrial or commercial buildings and complexes that are abandoned and/or deteriorating. Marriott could pick them up pretty reasonably and the city would probably give them a bunch of favorable tax advantages. I'm not sure if people would want to vacation there but...
Detroit is being revived. The down town area is being bought up by Quicken and revitalized. It's worth a day trip just to see how things are progressing, but I agree with others that there isn't much else to do there.
I live about an hour away from Detroit and agree with Fasttr's II recommendations. I've never ben successful getting a summer trade to a Michigan resort. There are places like the Inn of Bay Harbor where you can use Marriott Rewards points. Like everyone said, you want to visit the shoreline with day trip to Detroit. My favorites are Traverse City, Petoskey and Mackinac Island. There are some fun inland cities people like to visit including the German town of Frankenmuth, about 1 1/2 hrs from Detroit.
