Last time we went to Vail we stayed at the Marriott Vail..regular hotel room.
Anyone stay at the Ritz Carlton? Looks alittle further out from the marriott (I remember it was a bit of a walk tot he Vail Village).

Anyone try staying at the Ritz Carlton Vail using Marriott Vacation Club points?

The Ritz Carlton Vail is right next door to the Marriott Vail. Requires a high number of Destination Club points during ski season.

I've stayed at both during ski season. RC has a shuttle so it's easy to get to the gondola. We did the 5 minute walk from the RC a couple of times with our boots on, carrying our skis, but the shuttle was worth a couple of minutes' wait. The RC is more upscale, and the units are two to four bedrooms, kitchen, dining and living room, so that will likely guide you. If it was just my wife and me, we would do the Marriott; with another couple or families, the RC. Ymmv. Cheers.

You might also consider the Marriott Streamside Douglas or Evergreen resorts. These are 1-3 bedroom condos that will sleep 6-10 people. It's 2 miles west of the lifts but has a convenient shuttle to the lifts. The cost for a 1BR/2Bath that sleeps 6 in Douglas will probably be less than a hotel room at the Marriott in Lionshead.
