Seeking advice on three topics at HHV for an upcoming trip:

1) Car Rental: We plan to rent a car only for a day or two to visit N. Shore and Pearl Harbor to minimize parking fees. What rental car options are available at HHV? or is it better to Uber to the Airport to pick up a car?

2) Pearl Harbor Tours. Which are the best? Does it make sense to purchase at HHV or elsewhere (we have 4 adults.)

3) Surfing lessons in Waikiki.

Thanks

Car rental is available right at the HHV, Dollar I believe. It costs a bit more than the ones surrounding the HHV, but if you only want it for a day, this is actually not a bad deal. All the other rental places have no drop off and close at 6:00PM You will have to pay to park overnight if you don't make it back in time. Book in advance, and pick it up first thing in the morning.
We usually do the daily thing, take advantage of the car to have dinner outside of Waikiki that night, then return the car and drop off the keys in the drop box in the parking garage at the HHV.
Not sure about Pearl Harbor tours, last time we went was on our honeymoon. We took a boat tour into the harbor and wife got seasick. That was nearly 40 years ago and she still remembers it.
There are lessons available at the HHV and some other hotels and along the beach. The beach ones would be cheaper.

Our daughters took surfing lessons from a group of Hawaiian firefighters. They picked them up at the resort (we were staying at the Hilton) and took them to a more remote, less crowded, beach. Price included lunch as well.

I don't remember the name of the company, but you could probably search, or ask when you get there.

I just did a quick search and found this.

FYI: The car rental company on the property is National.

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. I am checking on these options now.

One last question: What is the best way to transport 4 adults to/from HHV from the HNL airport? Is there a limo service or shuttle that is particularly good?

We used ABC Limousine and was quite happy with the service.
