My husband and I purchased our first HGVC timeshare this fall. When we signed up the HGVC reps helped us to consolidate our Hilton Honors accounts and told us to use the common account number whenever we travel to Hilton hotels so we get the benefits of the higher tier status.

We both received Gold HHonors cards in the mail with each of our names and the account number.

I just learned today from a Hilton Honors rep that when my husband travels alone to Hilton and uses our joint number it won't count as Hilton Honor award travel because he is the secondary person on the account and he must have his own account which does not carry the same tier status even though we both own the timeshare jointly.

She told me that he needs to set up a new Hilton Honors Account to get credit for hotel stays when they are in his name when I am not present and these points will not accrue to our HGVC HHonors account.

I spoke with another HHonors account rep and they said it would mess things up set up a new account.

This is a mess. I am hearing different opinions from Hilton. What should we do?

Ignore the 1st rep.

Unless something recently changed, he shouldn't have a problem getting his HHonors credit and being recognized for his HHonors status during his stays.

In my case, my husband's name is listed as the primary on our HHonors account. His name is listed when I log into our HHonors account. So every time I make an online reservation via Hilton.com, his name is automatically defaulted. I simply add my name as a guest during the reservation process. I haven't had any problem so far getting HHonors credit for my stays when I travel without him. Although I haven't had many stays lately since I no longer have brand loyalty with Hilton.

I concur with "alwysonvac." Using one account to accumulate points is a better plan.
Listing the "secondary" spouse as a guest (so they can check-in) is not much of a hassle.
Also, the spouse can book themselves w/o the HH #, and present the card at check-in.

I recently discovered this issue when booking a room for my spouse at a Hampton Inn.
Since she was the only one going, I added her as a "guest." She checked in; no issues.

Here, I need to complement the front desk...
When they learned she had missed dinner due to visiting her son at the hospital,
they offered her anything she wanted from their pantry and a breakfast-to-go sack.

For us the joint account works well, except for the fact that my wife's stays (secondary account holder) typically require an email to hhonors to credit to our joint account. Award stays in my wife's name we book by phone.
