Question for Wyndham owners and renting

My daughter will be getting married in St. Thomas in November. I have put in several requests for The Elysian. I have a neighbor who owns at The Elysian, but he is very scattered and confused! He told me that he would rent me as many units as I need since he is an owner there.
So the main questions are: Can you rent directly from The Elysian? If so, can he rent cheaper than me since he is an owner and I am not? I am trying to trade through RCI, so would that be any different the him getting me units? Would the rentals be through RCI? Thanks for your help.

I am doing this right now trying to rent from a Wyndham points owner to get into our home resort for XMAS. Cost is WAY cheaper than through the resort. Know nothing about the Elysian, but I have rented elsewhere and it was always cheaper to go through an owner. Plus you can request a specific unit/bldg sometimes, and specific dates. Make sure to get travel insurance if you do rent through an owner- I get mine through CSA Vacation Rentals.

RCI does not permit exchanges to be rented.

Maybe they have discount rentals for owners? Or maybe he owns and can reserve many weeks?

I would suggest that you sit down with your neighbor, with a list of prepared questions, and make the call with him, to determine exactly what is available.

What specific dates in November? I'm checking the resort availability now, it looks like it books very quickly right at the 10-month mark. For example, there is no availability in September nor October for even a 3-night stay (other than Oct 31.) The first weekend in November already requires a split reservation. So whatever you do you have to do it immediately at the 10-month mark!

Your best bet may be on the Worldmark side. I don't see any availability for Wyndham the week of 11/7 for even 3 nights. At this point I only see 1 night available (single night stays) for Nov 6, Nov 11, Nov 14, and Nov 20.

Worldmark currently has availability Nov 10, Nov 12, and Nov 14; but with Worldmark you can waitlist for the missing dates. I think you'd have a decent probability of success filling out at least one week there.

Unless the folks you've reached out to have fixed weeks that are not converted, or already have reservations made, I think you might be too late - certainly to get a large number of reservations is going to be real tough.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but better to let you know now than have you waiting by the phone for a call that may not happen.
