Okay ... in a month I have a non-renovated 1bdr booked for a 4 day weekend. A long 4 day weekend in NYC..... I figure I can escape for that as I am getting to go nowhere since Turkey Day. It is only a train ride 2.5 hours commute via car, train and walking 1 long block and 3 short blocks.

What is the setup on this level of unit? Hotel room with 1 bed? Any form of kitchenette --- or is cooler & ice machine? Any first hand experience - I upgraded from the original studio to this original 1bdr ....

WIFI free or extra?

33rd floor lounge open yet?

Hi Linda,

1BR is a suite with separate LR with desk and table along with sofa and chairs. Kitchenette has fairl big fridge, stovetop, toaster and coffee pot. Update loot they did sort of by lotto - everyone gets 75? 100 maybe? Not sure. One at each session was supposed to get a higher amount. 250 or 500 I think. We didn't do it because we had other priorities. Pretty sure wifi was included.

Have fun.

Loot for Owner's Update?

Hi, we went last summer and upgraded a studio to a 2BR and a 1BR (took my Father in Law). I don't think any of the units were upgraded yet although the 2BR was very nice - corner unit with nice views.

The 33rd floor lounge was open - and very nice - when we went last summer. There is a nice wrap-around terrace, very relaxing. I could have spent more time there but the rest of the gang wanted to see the sights all the time.

The 2BR, thought it wasn't really advertise to have a full kitchen - had pretty close to a full kitchen, including a dishwasher. The 1BR was much smaller and was missing a few items, but did have a good sized refrigerator as well. The small round dining table in both units had placed settings that store underneath the table top - interesting innovation.

The 1BR we had faced another taller building and was therefore always pretty dark, even in the middle of the day with all lights on. There was a compact desk with a foldout drawer that worked well as a small desk for a laptop. Like you'd expect, space is at a premium but it's used pretty well. We loved the 2BR, the 1BR was okay but we weren't in it much. It's a good location, short walk to Times Square.

Wi Fi was included.

How do you know if you're booked into a renovated vs. non renovated unit? I have the first week in April reserved, and just assumed rooms had been renovated...uh oh!

Online booking and your confirmation from Wyndham - the non-renovated rooms cost LESS (fewer) points and are identified as such.. I booked the cheap deal to get 2 stays (one a long 4 night stay weekend as the first visit and the 2nd visit 6 weeks later, 3 night midweek). I can do weekends better than midweek - but some stuff in NYC is cheaper (Broadway) during the week.

Also id'ed on printed reservation also as "renovated" ... and NO, the VIP upgrade does NOT move you into a renovated unit... I upgraded from NON-studio to NON-1bdr.

Figured I might regret that - but I seen a lot of scummy places and how much time will I be in the unit. Now, if there are other critters or the door is not secure or the bed is on the floor or the sofa only had 1 leg, that is a definite issue with the Front Desk & Wyndham-land.

Is the sofa in the older units, a sofabed?

Is the 33rd floor lounge open or is there a date for its opening?

Thanks......looks like I have a renovated unit...although I might have opted for a non renovated unit to save points had I realized the difference at the time....Nothing else available for that week now, tho, so I'll just go and enjoy!

It is definitely not a sofa bed... worn vinyl couch. 33rd floor lounge is open and very nice.

Was there twice in December and stayed in a renovated and a non renovated 1 br unit. Both were very nice. I was however disappointed that on both occasions the unit was not ready until almost 6PM.. One checking was Dec 3rd and the other was Dec 30th. The lounge on the 33rd fl was nice. They have a wet bar with wine glasses that we made use of. Bring your own wine of course.

Is 6 PM their normal check in time by the way? If not, did you get any compensation?
Checkin is supposed to be 4PM. No compensation. Another family I met is the lounge said they had the same problem with late unit availability. BTW don't wait around for them to call when its ready either because they don't. Just have to keep checking back with the front desk. Also the last time we were there the keys were not at the front desk they make us go to the member services person to get keys so they could press to us to attend an update which is something we don't participate in anymore.

Just how worn and outdated are the non-renovated units? I am taking overseas relatives for 3 nights and booked 2 2BD units, but the non-renovated were the only options available.

I am VIP Gold and was hoping I might be able to upgrade to a renovated unit, but I see someone posted that is not possible, although they told me when I called Owner Services that it would be possible to do so.

When I called the resort, they told me pictures were available on the website, but the pictures were only of the renovated units. They also told me that the
2BD unrenovated units would sleep 6, but on the Wyndham unit descriptions, it says they only sleep 4. Which is correct?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We have not stayed in a 2br unit yet but have stayed in a 1br renovated and non renovated. The non renovated unit was still a very nice unit. I believe the non renovated units sleep 2 fewer people than the renovated units because they do not have a sleep sofe in them.

Also you can upgrade as long as there is a renovated 2br available when you check for the upgrade. The more frequently you check the more likely you are to get the upgrade.
