Buying First Class cheaply.
Tuesday, September 16, 2014
From: "Matthew Bennett" <mr.upgrade@firstclassflyer.com>
Talking to a friend today, I realized there are two ways to go about buying First Class airline tickets.
Expensive ways.
And cheap ways.
Expensive ways can easily run 10 to 20 thousand dollars cash.
One cheap way is buying miles—ideally on sale—and then using them to buy the ticket.
The downside of that cheap way is availability of award seats.
But here's the thing:
Availability is not the hurdle pessimists make it out to be.
Let me explain.
For every 100 routes for a particular date, or 100 dates for a particular route, there might be at any given time about five routes or dates with award availability—more or less (depending on many factors of course).
So, knowing those routes is crucial to buying expensive tickets cheaply.
You can stay up all night trying to find those routes or dates or you can tap into the research our global team does routinely.
Once you know those (otherwise) Hidden Routes, knowing this is also crucial:
You don't have to live in the Hidden Route's departure city or want to go to the route's destination city to take advantage of the route.
Sadly, so, so many people I encounter can't wrap their heads around this concept, despite these two simple facts:
Connecting Flights—booked on the same ticket or a separate ticket—can get you from your home airport to the Hidden Route's departure city.
Connecting Flights—booked on the same ticket or a separate ticket—can get you from the Hidden Route's destination city, to where you ultimately want to go.
While these can sometimes mean going slightly backwards, if it is a choice between your financial situation going backwards in a big way or you going backward in a little way... well...
A bit of planning mixed with a bit of flexibility, and combined with FCF's Upgrade Cheat Sheets and—Voila!—just one of the many, inexpensive ways to fly First Class.
At times, for the price of coach...

P.S. For other inexpensive ways of getting premium air travel, keep an eye on FCF's Newsroom... loaded with new, published anomaly airfares and fare wars... on an ongoing basis... admittedly a more straightforward way of booking the best values : )
P.P.S. I have no qualms with you forwarding this email to your fellow, Upgrade-Minded Travelers.
