I am making some reservations for summer 2017 in the mid atlantic region.
The last day of school for my high school age son is June 15 and in Elementary school they have half days scheduled though Monday June 19. We live in Maryland but I know different counties have slightly different dates

If you live in the mid Atlantic and have school aged children what is their last day and do you like to vacation as soon as school is out? We usually do because the season hasn't quite started full throttle so it is a little calmer than July and maybe a slightly better chance at less humid with afternoon thunderstorm weather.

I have to be aware of school calendars for my 8 year old grandson and 13 year old granddaughter. I also like to take my almost granddaughters who live in NJ.We usually take our vacations the last week in June until the second week in July. That is one week after school closes in PA, DE and NJ. We like to vacation two weeks at a time

I'm in the West. But I like to take a trip first thing to kick off Summer. A lot of people I know do the same thing. I like to go somewhere that is more pleasant in June than in July/August.

If you're curious, a lot of school districts put their schedules online. You can look at your possible destinations to see if the locals will be out of school or not and get a good idea of whether it will be busy or not. I do this to find out about day camps for my son to attend - if the local kids are still in school then usually there won't be any day camps available for me to enroll him in.

I have to leave a little breathing room in case of snow days. Darn New England winters!

We have a week at Cold Spring Resort that is generally 4th of July week. For 2017, we are going to the Grand Summit Mt. Snow in VT the week immediately before that. And then we'll have our trip to Missouri to see my parents in August, and a trip to Smuggs to end up the summer. Trying to leave several weeks in July open for church camp and rec camp. We do best when we "book-end" the summer with trips, and leave the middle for other activities!

One year, I booked a cruise a day or two after DD's scheduled last day of school.

I forgot to factor in snow days and it also was the year of Hurricane Sandy where they were out of school for 2 weeks.

DD's school threatened to not graduate her because she was missing the last days of school. I fought it and DD was able to take exams early.

Now I book vacations at least 2 weeks AFTER the last day of school.
