Hoping to get a week at #0441 Chelan Shores next July(3rd or 4th week). Reviews seem to confirm it would be a fantastic week. Any experiences by Tuggers on trading into a July week using RCI points acct.? Advice? Thanks from 12 year Timesharer...new to trading/exchanging!

The weather is sometimes crazy up in the Chelan area. Often times there are huge thunder storms that pass through in late June and July causing wild fires that can smoke out the area. Also, it can get really hot.

Fishing is great.

Thanks for the input. looking forward to spending a week in the NW next summer- first time to Washington/Idaho from our central Alberta home. My wife and I both love the summer heat, and we are looking for a place to relax with a good book, along with lots of walking/hiking, and jogging trails. Just hoping to gather input from experienced Tuggers.

For weather in Washington, you want to start on July 5 (yes, the 4th still can be iffy). LOL

We joke that summer starts here on July 5th.

ChelanMan (70.3 Ironman) is run on the 2nd weekend of July every year because its almost always perfect weather (depending on how you like heat).

Other options: Also in the Chelan area is Wapato Point a few miles up the road. Both have similar amenities.
For hiking trails, Leavenworth which is a short distance southwest is much better. There are a couple of timeshares there.
OR, further south, Eagle Crest in Oregon which has a lot of units would be a perfect fit. You can hang out with a book and watch the golfers miss or head out for some fabulous hiking. Early July would be pushing it on the trails close to the crest, but there are good trails in Smith Rocks St Park and other areas on the east edge. August would be perfect so this might be a good option for a future trip.

IMHO, Wapato Point is the better of the two choice (vs Lake Chelan shores) because it is bigger with a much better beach and walking trails.

You will like the area is my bet. At the top of the lake is a little town ( a bunch of cabins) called Stehekin. There are some really cool beautiful trails up there. You take a boat or ferry to get there.
http://www.lodgeatstehekin.com/stehekin-hiking.htm

Also the fishing is great. I think I already said that. :D The trails around the east side of the lake are kind of bear and great for quads and snowmobiles.

AS far as beaches go there really aren't to many considering how big this lake is. The shore for the most part is rocky. So if you take your boat you need to realize that if you go to the top of the lake ( 50 miles up)the wind can really kick up some huge waves and in some areas there isn't many places on the shore to pull out of.

There is also Mill Bay Casino with events like a rod show, bike show, concerts or what ever. http://www.colvillecasinos.com/deepwater-amphitheater/

You should go, I bet you would have a blast.

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but is that exchange possible? For some reason I thought these resorts bulk banked and didn't deposit summer weeks. I certainly stand to be corrected but it might be worth investigating.

And definitely get your ongoing search in very quickly if you are going with an RCI exchange. If these weeks do get deposited, I'd expect they'd be snapped up before they ever get online.

Just my .02 worth. I think it would be a marvellous place for a family vacation and I hope it comes through for you.

Yikes! My inexperience is painfully obvious- while i haven't had any need for ongoing searches, "bulk banking" is totally foreign to me. I really need to read more on TUG. I appreciate all the suggestions regarding the different locations, though it is apparent I need to become much more "savvy" real quick if I hope to be successful acquiring a week next July. Thanks again for all posts.

Bulk banking means that the resort puts in a whole bunch of weeks that the resort chooses, basically. Usually it means that when an owner calls to reserve their week, it has basically been pre-deposited and the resort just assigns a deposited week to the owner.

Often it means that owners can't really choose what week they would like to deposit, they just have to take what the resort gives them. On the flip side, if a person decides to deposit very close to their use period, they will get the advantage of having a week that has been sitting with RCI for a while, rather than a late deposit.

On the exchange side, it often can play out that a resort will not deposit prime weeks, but save them for owners who actually want to use them rather than exchangers.

If it was me, personally, I would be calling the resorts that you are thinking of exchanging into or their management company and asking what their policy is. And even if there are some summer weeks deposited, you really should start an ongoing search ASAP, as it is quite likely a lot of people want those weeks. Not likely prime weeks will make through all the people standing in line for them to show up online.

I hope my explanation doesn't sound too simplistic. THere's lots of discussion here on TUG about the pros/cons of bulk banking but it mainly relates to owners who like it or don't - not so much about the impacts on trying to get your exchange.

And as previously mentioned, I really hope your plans come through.

Bev
