I just found out that I might need a 2 night stay in NYC in a couple months. Looking at Revolution, it looks like I may be able to score bonus time at 57th street, but of course I won't know until much closer.

I'm looking for suggestions and it doesn't have to be Hilton. It's for an event in Brooklyn, but from what I understand (never been to NYC) public transportation is easy to get from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

It is easy but it's a pretty good ride from W. 57th to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn is the new happening area these days. You might want to find something closer.

I think it all depends on where your event is located.

If you're going to the Barclay Center, then it's about 30 minutes from midtown. You can catch the B train right near the timeshare and its 8 stops to Barclay. You wouldn't even have to transfer between subway lines.

Even though there is a lot to do in Brooklyn, there is tons more do in Manhattan and 30 minutes is not a big deal, especially just say you wanted to go to lower Manhattan to do some of the touristy stuff down there that would take 20 minutes from midtown (e.g. WTC memorial, Statute of Liberty, South Street Seaport, etc.).

Why go to NYC and stay in Brooklyn if you can stay in Manhattan?

But, if your event is not at Barclay, then I would definitely find out where and look if public transport is viable. Brooklyn is a pretty big place.

It's at NYU/Polytech. It looks like I can take F subway from near the hilton to very close to the university. Doesn't look like transportation will be running as late as we need it to, though. Unless, I am not reading that chart correctly, which is extremely possible. Is taking a taxi pretty easy?

I looked at a club booking, but nothing available for my dates. For club bookings, do we have a much smaller window? I see lots of stuff up until the week before I need it and then I see nothing. Starting to think I am blocked until closer to check in.

F train service is 24 hours a day and only 22 minutes to Jay St./Metrotech from 57th Street. I've attached the schedule. The bold times are p.m.

Cabs are easy, just expensive.... just hail one down and tell them where you want to go. They are required to take you anywhere in the city. Get in the cab first and then tell the driver you want to go to Brooklyn.

Subway $2.50 each way and $1 for a new card, so for $6 you get round trip to Brooklyn. The subways are also faster depending on traffic. A taxi, I would say about $25 each way without tip....

Another option is to ask somebody who is Hilton Diamond or Starwood Platinum member to make a booking at a hotel for you and do some type of barter. Due to the status of the member, you will get free breakfast and maybe upgraded suite, evening lounge with free snacks and drinks, etc. You get none of this with Hilton 57th and rooms are still like a hotel room with no kitchens.

I think you might want to check the rules as well, but I don't think Open Season applies.

If you're an owner at W 57 you can do cash, but a non-owner has to pay with points always.

I could be wrong but I think that is how it works.

That Jay Street Metrotech subway stop isn't the greatest, and I would certainly avoid it at night as well.

This is correct.

Okay, that makes sense now!

Great. Thanks so much!

Thanks for that idea. I am interested in those types of options. Hilton 57th has the easy transit, which eases some of my anxiety, but other locations may have the same thing.

Good to know. So, I would have to stay the extra night if I book there for the 3 night rule.

Blech! That's the kind of info that I really need, though. I am thinking using the subway in the morning and a taxi for the return trip. If it really creeps me out, maybe a taxi all the time. :p

Don't forget, Resortime has some pretty decent NY inventory as well.

My sister and husband stayed at the Radio City location and while it wasn't fancy, the location was awesome for getting around.

The RCI portal is a good place to look too.

Didn't think to check resortime or RCI. I'll check both of those.

There must be very high demand for NYC locations. They certainly make it hard for non-owners to book these locations... But i guess that does save the units for owners, which would be better than what has happened with the Manhattan Club..

For what its worth, i have notice pretty good availability for both the Hilton Club and West 57 on Hilton.com if your will pay cash or hhonors points..

Update.

Looks like my son got a full ride to the competition and all his travel expenses are going to be arranged and paid for by the university that is hosting the event. That is good news on several levels, one being that I don't need to go. We've had a lot of extra expenses lately and it was going to be a hardship. If I go, I have to pay for myself.

So, the question of the day is, would any of you be comfortable sending your 17 year old alone to NYC? He will share a room with another team member (all strangers), so I assume he would never be alone, other than coming and going to the airport, but they are providing transportation for that (not sure in what way). He is young for a college student because he left HS 2 years early, but most of the other students there will be college aged since it's a college competition.

Sounds like your son is a smart and mature young adult. I would just give him tips on how to be safe while traveling. I would not worry.
