I actually got 3 of them--2 in English and one in Spanish because I have had several memberships over the years and have subscribed to the email blasts. All 3 of them ended up in my spam box but I saw them when I checked.

The name was not Royal Resorts on the email but Vanessa Vivas. Here is the link inside the email where it says "View this message in a browser"

Yes, I got the message last Friday or Saturday. There is also a whole discussion going on in the Members area on the Royal Resorts website.

I think the visitor's rule is justified. I really don't think it will affect many members anyway and they will have to come up with a means of enforcing it. I also have no desire to wear any type of wristband. Don't want the tan line!:)

We received the notice on July 4th. I think it is a very good idea. The last two times we were in Cancun (October 2007 and April 2008) we had trouble finding chairs to sit in around the Royal Islander pool. We had to go over to use the RC pool a couple of times because there was no place to sit at the Islander. I don't know where all of the people came from because there were quite a few empty villas those weeks. My daughter said some employees were walking around the pool area in April and asking some people where they were staying and their villa number. They asked her.

I don't know why any owner would object to the charge. I see it as a way of keeping maintenance fees down. The sign on the beach does say "Private Club".

We leave for Cancun on Saturday. I'll let you know when I get back if I notice any changes.

I would appreciate your observations when you get back.

I've never had any problems with crowding at the Royals so I’ve been wondering what the problem is with visitors. We don’t sit around the pool when we have visitors. We use the bar, restaurant or sit on the balcony of our villa. I can’t see paying extra for that.

We go in May and late October.

This is now the second time I have heard the name Richard Corso mentioned regarding ways to boost income. May be a trend.

I am also opposed to the wrist band concept,This 100 P is very unfair , we are a couple using our Villa 2 people while the family next door has a family of 6, using more of services than a 2person family, but we will becharged 200p for 2 day guest and will still be under the number of 6 in the villa next door go figure.

why not just add them to your registration card at the start of your stay saying they are showing up later? I've often had guests check in earlier or later than me.

The additional fee doesn't bother me in the least. If I have additional guests I'll gladly pay it for them, since they are my guests after all, and let them enjoy our resorts.

Wrist bands would. I don't even wear a watch and heaven forbid I get a tan line on my wrist!

Will be curious to see on the Towels. We always check out the max and keep them for days ... hanging the lightly used ones to dry in the villa.

Here's the latest on the day "Visitor Policy" from the Royal Resorts Message Board:

Cancun, Mexico
July 7, 2008

Dear Royal Resorts Member:

In a commitment to better serve you, Royal Resorts recently revised the policy for visitors who have been invited to the resorts. Effective July 6, 2008, day visitors need to purchase a Day Pass and may enjoy most resort facilities.

This policy serves to provide a fair and sustainable option to invite unregistered family and friends to enjoy the resort. For reference, in 2007 the number of registered day visitors passed 16,000. The number has continued to grow in 2008.

Obviously additional guests increase operational expenses for utilities, cleaning, front desk and security staff, beach chairs, palapas, towels, etc. and will be charged to those using the services.

All of the income generated from the Day Pass will be exclusively used by operations of each resort to offset costs and minimize the effect on your Club Service Fee.

The New Visitors Policy

When members invite friends and relatives who are not staying at any of the Royal Resorts to spend the day with them, the visitors must register at the Front Desk on arrival and request a Day Pass. The fee for the Day Pass is $100 pesos per person - charged to the member’s club bill - and entitles visitors to use the resort facilities for a single day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

• All visitors must be invited by a member or a registered guest.

• The cost of the Day Pass will not be applied until your villa reaches official occupancy limit. As an example: if your unit sleeps six people but there are only four registered occupants and you would like to invite two more friends who are not staying at Royal Resorts to spend the day with you, you may do so at no additional charge.

• The charge does not apply between the hours of 6 and 10 p.m. although visitors must still register at the Front Desk.

• A maximum of four visitors (Day Passes) is permitted per villa per day.

• This new policy applies for all visitors aged three years and older.

• Additional fees apply to some services such as Gym or Spa facilities and treatments.

• Purchases made by your visitors, such as restaurant, bar, store, or activities, will be charged to your Club bill.

• The Day Pass policy has been implemented at Club Internacional de Cancun, The Royal Mayan, The Royal Caribbean, The Royal Islander, The Royal Sands & Spa and The Royal Haciendas. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Armando Millet Vales
Corporate Operation Manager
Royal Resorts

Thanks Joe L. I didn't notice that there was a second page. JS

The ammended policy also indicates that there is no charge for visitors arriving at 6PM or later. They still must register and depart by 10PM.

Joe L thanks for calling my screw-up to my attention. I missed page 2 of the "Visitors Policy", so I amended my post, which appears two up from here, to include page 2.

Looks like the manure is hitting the fan at the Royal Resorts over this one!

See the www.royalresorts.com, Message Board for all the comments. Wow!

Thanks PJ - I screwed up again! Oh well an "s" here and an "s" there, what can I say?

That's www.royalresorts.com - you need the "s" to get to the right place.

e-mail member cards and they will send it to you. Sometimes it takes more than one try. Your ID is the number printed on your card, mailings etc (usually). The PIN number they generate.

Mr. Richard Sutton is getting out of the day-to-day management of the Royals and has turned it over Mr. Richard Corso, the fellow that has the "Natural Golf" thing between the Mayan and Caribbean and also the red Corvette that’s parked under cover at the Mayan by the laundry room. Guess he's come up with a new way to mine for dollars.
.

Yes, he has: It is called the Pelican Resort & Casino (the new Marina Bldg) in SXM

I couldn't find the info, but I just hit the link on royalresorts.com for live help, and after verifying who I was (my email was already on my system), the person on the other end sent me the login info. She was very helpful - even remembered me a few days later when I wrote about something completely different.

It'd be nice if you could change the impossible-to-remember numbers to a login and password of your choosing. Oh well.
