Has anyone rented bikes at Barony recently?

Last time I rented some - it was the black single-speed beach cruisers - ok at best - fairly old. Anything changed? Better bikes now?

Any recommendations if you don't rent from the Barony resort, is there a recommended bike shop?

Hi Sparty,

Here's a link to an older Tug Thread from 2010 about Bikes on Hilton Head
http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118257

Note, that some of the links no longer work or are in the process of being updated. This should get you started if you want to rent bikes off-site.

I was at hilton Head Island last month and used the following coupon. At $18 per bike, delivered to your resort, it was the cheapest I could find. Bikes were fairly new but like most were your basic beach bike. You will probably want one with wider tires to ride on the sand.

We stay at Grande Ocean mostly, which gives the free Sea Pines biking pass (entrance just down the road), but when we don't stay there our favorite place to rent bikes is inside Sea Pines at one of two places:

1. Sea Pines Bike Rentals at Plantation Club (next door to golf course at intersection of Sea Pines Drive and Lighthouse Road.

Very easy access to trails in all directions, especially my favorite Lighthouse Rd>Plantation Drive>Harbour Town leg.....

or in other direction Sea Pines Dr >to South Beach

2. Bikes Plus at 79 Lighthouse Road next door to Truffles Restaurant and across street from Swallowtail resort. Small but good company, very friendly and helpful.

These allow EASY access to the very best trails inside Sea Pines, which are FAR SUPERIOR to any other trails on the island. Locking bikes in Harbour Town or South Beach allows staying a while for lunch, using playground, browsing shops, and our favorite thing, ice cream, etc before returning home on the bikes.
