EZ Pass question

Perhaps a silly question but here goes..

I have one EZ Pass transponder (PA) that I use infrequently between two registered vehicles. We will be taking both vehicles to OBX in a few weeks and wonder if the one transponder will acknowledge both vehicles going through the toll. I was thinking of going real slow and close together going through the toll lane. Most likely will only use it only on the Chesapeake Expressway and maybe for a portion of 495.

I don't have a need for another transponder and I know some will say to just have one vehicle pay cash but I was wondering if this may work.

Thanks, Mark

I have ezpass from NY. Not sure its the same everywhere. If plates are registered with ezpass and you "forget" the transponder it will read your plate, see that you are registered and charge the toll to your account without a penalty.

If you look at your bill it will list transponder ID or plate number depending on how you were identified...

You can't use it in two places at once. For $38 you get a extra transponder and 35 of prepaid tolls.

Or pay cash for the second vehicle.

In New Hampshire, if you go through the EZ Pass lane without having a transponder, you will be billed whatever the toll price is and a $25 fine. I would think the way you are thinking it might work will not and you will end up paying whatever the fine each state law dictates. If I were you, I wouldn't do it. Here (NH), if the transponder and plate (your front and back plates are photographed as you pass through), do not match what is on your account, you can incur a fine for that as well.

Not sure if this is true. We have 2 transponders and 5 registered cars. I got my EZ pass from the Delaware toll road and live in NJ. Have used it all over the place (where EZ pass is accepted). The first response is correct; if you go through the EX pass lane without your EZ pass, it reads your tag and bills your account. We took 3 cars from NJ to CT and only had 2 transponders. Didn't have a problem.
