Tuesday is still in for some of us who fly Delta. I booked a flight last Tuesday to Orlando for Thanksgiving Day. The rate originally was $50 more during the weekend before. I snatched that $50 reduction before it changed.

From the Wall Street Journal Sunday Oct 26, 14 (Average price for domestic and international round trip airline tickets)

SUNDAY; $432
MONDAY; $503
TUESDAY; $497
WEDNESDAY; $498
THURSDAY: $501
FRIDAY: $502
SATURDAY; $439

I don't know where you could fly internationally for $432 but that is what the article stated.

Misleading?

I just finished reading that article and didn't think it made any sense. But, when you realize they combined and averaged business and leisure travel it makes more sense although it would have been much better if they would have separated the two. Since most business travel is conducted on Monday and Friday that would account for those days showing the highest prices. Although Monday is a big business travel day, it is not one of the big travel days for vacationing so it all really depends if you are flying a business or vacation location.

There was some big wig (i think airline connection) on tv last week who said best day for ourchasing airline tickets has moved from Tues to sunday. I'd check it out first, though.

The video on the first post has more info and confirms the best day is a Sunday and you have to book further and further out.

Well, I followed the advice given here and am pleased with the results! I looked online on Sunday, then called the airline. (Normally, as I understand it, there's an add'l charge to book through an operator. In this case, I was required to telephone in order to use a certificate.) The fare she quoted was lower than what the flights were advertised online by 20 or 30 bucks! Yes! I am happy!

The article did not deal with what days it is cheaper to fly, but rather which days it was cheaper to buy.

Most major airports in Texas to Cancun, Mexico.

I usually only research tickets to Hawaii. But I still find that prices are cheaper if I purchase Tue-Thurs. versus Fri-Mon.
