Okay people, not to ruffle any admins feather... Literally just hung up form RCI.

YES YOU CAN gift Trading Power Units (TPUs) from one weeks owner to another weeks owner. They now call it "Weeks deposit transfer*"

*This is a bit deceiving because you are NOT transferring a week per se, but a RELATION NUMBER.
Each of your deposit has a relation number assigned to it. If you have combined deposits, it has a number. If you have left over TPUs from partial use of TPUs for a trade, it too has a relation number assigned to it.

As of November 2015 there were some changes and this is the update I received moment ago:

1) now $98 to do a "Weeks deposit transfer"
2) the week is a relation number or relation NUMBERS - that is you can for the $98 fee transfer up to 5 (five) relation numbers to the same person at one time - which you have in your space bank account
3) The rep will need the Account Number of the person receiving the TPUs
4) a) The rep will complete a form on their end, take your money (of course!) and have the supervisor complete the transfer while you wait OR
b) The rep will get the supervisor on the phone [instead of the rep completing the form] who will take your money (of course) and complete the transfer
5) Either you or the receiver can pay the Weeks Deposit Transfer / gifting fee. If the receiver is paying, then do a 3 way call and have them on the line with you and the Rep/Supervisor.

That's it. Done.

The Weeks Deposit Transfer is synonymous with [also known as] 'gifting' - should you call and ask the RCI rep and forget the WDT moniker.

WHY would you want to gift TPUs to someone? Why not?!

If you are not using them, are not going to pay to combine them, are not going to pay to extend them, then why let them go to waste - esp when/if someone else less fortunate or in need could use them?

(I personally know a woman who was in a domestic violence situation who needed a shelter to get away to. She didnt have enough TPUs. I did not have enough to find an available week within her travel distance area from her kids school. But this is an extreme example. Which begs another questions = HOW DO YOU GET MORE TPUS if you need them, without buying another timeshare????????)

WHY would you want to gift TPUs to someone? Why not?!

What goes around comes around. Most everyone I've met in 35 years of 12 weeks of timeshare per year have been awesome families and folks, many who we still see annually and/or have rent/bought/sold directly with, or to, each other.

Timeshare is a great community... if you have like minded people...

What I like about TUG / Timeshare is the same thing I live about folks with sail boats, RVs, campers/camping, etc - they help each other to learn and get the most out of what they own! Good people are good people. What goes around, comes around!

Thanks for your comments!!

Did they say why there is no form online or any documentation online explaining the procedure?

This is excellent information that is asked for frequently. Thanks for posting it.

OP, you might consider re-titling the thread something like 'TPU Gifting Instructions', or something similar.

To edit the title, click 'Edit' in your post, then click 'Go Advanced' and edit away, then click 'Save' when done.

This feature has been available for some time, but it is sort of hidden. At the bottom of the RCI pages, you can find a link titled 'Terms & Conditions' and it's mentioned there under #17. At one time, there was a link online to a form you filled out and I believe it was close to a $90-something fee. However, I can no longer find the form or fee posted anywhere online.

Here's what #17 in Ts & Cs says:
17. Transfer of Deposited Vacation Time, Combined
Deposits or Deposit Credits.
Subject to RCI’s approval, a Member may transfer a
Deposit to another Member, if the transferring Member
a) submits to RCI a completed authorization in the form
established by RCI; b) pays the applicable fee, listed on
RCI’s website at www.rci.com, for each such transfer;
and c) the transferor and transferee each represents to
RCI that the transfer is not in return for compensation or
commercial use. RCI reserves the right, in its sole
discretion to limit the number of Deposit transfers a
Member may make.

(So thanks, CubaTravel, for explaining the current process!)

Could you please clarify.
Can you transfer a COMBINED AMOUNT - like 500 TPUs for example.

or must all transfers be for relation number tied the original deposits.

We only have one deposit left to search with unless I pay to extend the TPUs returned for a 25 December 2015 cancellation. I didn't bother extending because it was only 7 TPUs.

If the answer is that I can only transfer in small numbers less than 60, then it would be cost prohibitive.

I have transfered the full annual allotment from our RCI Points account without any problems twice. If this recent charge to transfers to RCI weeks is for a combined amount, that will be great!

Thanks for sharing.

A generous person once gave us 17 TPUs when he was closing out his RCI account. He filled out the form, we paid the transfer fee, and the points came over smoothly. It was great!

Conflicting information from RCI phone reps? I'm shocked, truly.

Great question - I DID ask about this!

I wanted it in writing.

I asked:

"why can I not find anything about this on your website, anyplace?" - there is a form we have to fill out by hand and give it to a supervisor

"why can I not simply log-on and do the transaction myself like all other 'put in your credit card' type transactions?" - there is a form... blah blah yadda yadda

"Can you capture a screen shot or email me proof of the info you are sharing?" - no we do not have that 'capability'

Thanks I have asked to do this in the past and have gotten conflicting information.

That is exactly how I started my conversation with the RCI rep.

I said I have called in 3 times since April '15 and have been told conflicting information.

Previously I was told:

1) it was $89 not $98 (she said that prices changed in Nov '15)

2) I could transfer ANY amount of TPUs that were in my bank (she said this is almost still true however it is based upon the "relation number" now... What, as if it changed from before??? Regardless they are *acknowledging* such a thing was in place back in 2015 and still is in 2016)

hope this helps

That is great! Do you recall the date/year and how much they charged to do the transfer?
Sounds like it was very easy and straight forward. Was there any hiccup, reason why you would not do such again?
Please elaborate.

Extremely helpful. I'm surprised that you have to call in and can't just do a form, but whatever.

good reminder, no solicitations within the 'public' forum

[CubaTravelExpert - you have already received several warnings about soliciting in the discussion forums. That includes trying to fly under the radar. In a word: stop.]

[Folks - I have no dog in this fight, but I believe that buying/renting/selling TPU's could attract RCI's attention, and perhaps have negative consequences for those involved, so be cautious.]
