My Wife and me attended a presentation at a local restaurant offered as a update on the timeshare industry and RCI in particular. we currently own about 30,000 Worldmark points that we started buying over about the last 20 years.
They are offering to take our points and create a new RCI points account that they claim will be much more useable at more locations now and especially in the future. the annual user fees will be about one-half of Worldmark. their two offers were: both would take our 30,000 in trade, then as follows:
30,000 RCI points and about $10,000 cash or financing from us.
50,000 RCI points and about $12,000 cash or financing from us.
We would like any input from TUG members regarding this company and also the deal as described if they are legitimate or if offered by a reputable company.

Absolutely do not do this deal.
Your WM points are worth about $10,000 on the resale market. You can get 3 weeks in red season in a 2 BR unit for those credits via RCI, more in lower seasons. 30000 RCI points might get you one week. Why would you pay $10000 (actually $20,000 with the cost of the WM account added in) to get 1/3 of the usage? Of course, the maintenance fees are lower (if true) because you are only paying for 1/3 the usage.
WM is a very good trader in both RCI and Interval. You have maximum flexibility at a low cost right now. Learn to use your WM credits to their maximum either at WM resorts or via exchanging. Check the vacation exchange section at www.wmowners.com/forum for help.

There is no free dinner/lunch.

Listen to Sue.
30,000 rci points are worth less than $0 if the mf's are more than $250 per year. Even under that amount your WM points are worth much more. Your points are more flexible and worth much much more. They are selling you something that you would probably have to pay someone to take off your hands in exchange for something worth in the thousands.

Just to add my voice. Worldmark are one of the few systems that have really retained fairly good value in the resale market. And, especially living in California as you do, you have a choice of their resorts that you can use your points for. And they exchange fairly well, I believe, in the main exchange companies. Plus right now you have the option to use Interval with your WM points, where they do well.

It's a horrible deal.

Beware of naked stranger who buys lunch and offers you the shirt off his back in return for $22K.

Variations of this scam have been floating around for some time. In fact, got an invite a couple weeks ago here in Denver and the phone body snatcher vagueness led to hang up.

Check out this thread and do a search on "Legacy Vacation Club".

Run, don't walk from "Getaways"...

Although I have no personal experience or familiarity with Worldmark, what you own in that system clearly has some value in the more knowledgeable eyes of more experienced others here. Giving up that "value" for no good reason (and also paying thousands of dollars to do so) obviously makes no sense at all. Strike one.

Considerably larger RCI Points packages can be found virtually any day of the week, for very little money or for free --- including right on this site (TUG), on eBay and elsewhere as well. Paying $10-12k for something that you can acquire anytime for just pocket change really warrants no further analysis or comment. Strike two.

There is no good reason to even remotely approach or ever reach "strike three" on this matter. Just say "no" --- or "no, thank you" if you're feeling polite. ;)
