Timeshare Specialists indicate that we can donate our timeshare to charity. How reliable is this group? Has anyone had experience with them?

I dont know this company, but most charities dont want timeshares, Other similar companies, take your timeshare, sell it and donate the money (after taking out their fee) to the charity. Which is of course something you could do yourself

There is one guy I know of that has you deed your timeshare to a charity, but the charity is one of his own creation.

I think you and your favorite charity will be better off if you sell the timeshare yourself (give it away with incentives if necessary) and in a separate transaction. write a check to the charity.

Dumping and "donation" ain't at all the same thing...

Timeshare Specialists indicate that we can donate our timeshare to charity. How reliable is this group? Has anyone had experience with them?

Most timeshares are frankly worth very little money. Many are literally worth nothing, some are worth considerably less than nothing.
Essentially, timeshare ownership is a ongoing, permanent financial liability (...except, of course, to an owner who either uses and enjoys the timeshare, or successfully rents out time for profit, or "exchanges" the ownership, all of which certainly help a whole lot to justify and mitigate the ongoing and permanent costs of ownership).

No legitimate charity wants anything at all to do with receiving a timeshare ownership. Let's be honest and objective about this; it's not any form or flavor of "donation". It is instead simply and clearly just the attempted transfer (...or dumping, to be even more blunt) of a financial liability from one entity onto the shoulders of another.
Attempting to label any such effort as a "donation to charity" is completely disingenuous, at best. Any subsequent talk of "tax deduction" for donating something of no (..or even negative) value of course moves in the direction of outright fraud (to be clear however, OP above made no such mention of seeking any tax deduction).

Five or so years ago I gave away 3 Weeks to charities. I don't remember paying anything for the privilege. If I did, it was relatively insignificant. Today those calling themselves "charities" are either a scam or will charge you thousands of $$ for the privilege. Personally, I would stay away from all of them.

...we can donate our timeshare to charity.

If you are looking to get rid of your TS, the three suggestions often offered here are:

1) Try selling it.

http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44

From your profile, it appears that your TS might have some resale value. Maybe check E-Bay for completed sales of similar intervals in that resort to see what they are selling for.

2) If you see that your TS has little or no value then try asking the resort if it will take your interval back:

3) Concurrently, while you're trying step 2, try the free giveaway method here on TUG:

These will usually work out more cheaply than donating to a charity.
