Airfare to Peru

I plan to travel from Toronto, Canada to Iquitos, Peru on or about December 18, 2014 to January 24, 2015. There's a little flex on my dates. I can travel from Buffalo if it saves on airfare, and I can fly into Cusco or Lima before changing planes.

My question is -- what's the cheapest way to get airfare for this trip? I can change planes in New York or Miami or anywhere reasonable, but don't want more than one stop before Lima or Cusco.

The prices I'm pulling on Expedia are all $1,300 or above. I'd like to save a few hundred dollars if possible.

Ideas?

I was able to get it a bit cheaper for you. My total comes to $1,018 USD. See the images below:

It's a little cheaper from Buffalo, but those flights arrive after midnight which makes a connection to Iquitos difficult.

You may be able to find cheaper if you put an alert for Toronto and Buffalo to Lima, but considering how close your departure date is to the holidays, the chances are pretty slim.

Try Copa. You will change planes at PTY. No need to clear customs. Should be able to get a free stopover in Panama City for 2 or 3 days. Bags fly free, free meals and drinks onboard.

Also can be done pretty reasonable using miles but not sure about that time.

To follow up. Air Canada starts service to PTY in December (I think a few days after desired departure) and will codeshare with Copa for the 2nd leg. But given the choice I would do Copa for both segments.
