I've been watching flights from Connecticut to the L.A. area. When looking at a flight and it says "3 seats left at this price," am I to assume it won't go any lower? I know that's what it's implying. But the flight is still over two months away, the flights appear to be about half-full according to the seat maps, and there are other choices for the same day.

Flights

You need to understand how prices are set on airlines. The airline establishes different fare buckets. So for example they allot 6 seats to fare bucket t. If T is the lowest bucket, then when those are sold they go to the next bucket and that is inevitably higher. One way to understand this would be using award tickets. Can you imagine a plane taking off with all the seats being award tickets so that the airline makes 0 money on the flight? Of course, they don't do that. Nor do they do it with paid fares. The lower fare buckets us

Having said that, it is always possible for an airline to have a "sale" and lower the prices across the board. This could result in a lower price, but typically when the lower buckets are full the prices only go higher.

What you have observed is current air line policy of going a la carte.

At a couple on moths out all of the "premiun" say rows 1-7/10 and emergency row are shown as unavailable to cheapo fares depending on plane. Also, a lot of middle seats available.

Sometimes when you go to to 24 check in more seats are available.

At check in counter you can ask to move but they hang tough on paying extra fees.

At the Podium sometimes they will move you if you have a good story. I walk with a cane and often they will move to bulkhead seat.

When you get on plane there are generally up front seats available but again flight attendant will insist on fee to move.

Air lines realize if the start letting last minutes free upgrades, many people will take chance and wait!

In the good olde days no one cared if you moved to empty seat up front.

Now these premium seats are a big money maker along with baggage fees.

Check out this post!

Huh? What?

There might be some very useful information to share in this thread, but, so far, it has escaped me!
I would like to emphasize that responders to a question on a TUG BBS take the few seconds necessary to re-read their response, before he/she taps on that <Submit Reply> button.
The responses that I am reading in this thread just do not make any sense, as posted.
Check to see if your sentences have posted to completion of your thought or suggestion before you submit, please!
My feeble brain will be much obliged!

Perhaps you could be more explicit about what you do no not understand or is confusing you.

If you have inside info on how Sabre reservation system works and how to maximize do share with us.

The olde just 3 left, this price is only good for you today, false sense of urgency, ad nauseam kindergarten marketing practices have been around since day of great flood. While on occasion may be true one needs to take with a grain of salt.

Airline ticket prices are constantly changing based on many variables only a computer could massage and if one is pschic enough to accurately forecast could make a lot more money focusing on stock market.

Hmmm... The responses make fine sense to me, and I found them very informative.

Perhaps you could reply with questions on specific statements that you don't understand, and someone may help you out. Just berating the responders because you don't understand what they are saying is not the way to go about getting answers, IMHO.
