Well I thought I would let everyone know where my claim ended up with Vacation Guard which is a Hilton Partner and advertised on their site. I have to begin by saying, I have to unexpectedly say this company came through with flying colors.

I spent $49 for the policy which is good for one year.

I submitted a claim for trip delay as on the way home as I got stuck due to Hurricane Irene. My claim was for a total of $841.00 and included hotel for 2 nights, food, rental car as I ended flying to Pittsburgh the driving to NJ.

After about 1 month I called today and was told they sent a partial payment of $801. There was a $40 bill I paid for the shuttle to my SF hotel which they are reconsidering as there was only a credit card receipt. I think they will pay that as well. So they will have paid my claim in full.

I do caution everyone, that if you get stuck and use points, you won't get much money back. I took a chance and paid for everything hoping they would cover my loss. They also would not discuss with me what to do while this was happening to me.

I also had the issue, that my first part of my flight from Hawaii to San Francisco was not canceled. Although I would have loved to stay in Hawaii, I was afraid they would then decline everything for not taking the first leg of which I still do not know the answer.

Best $49 I ever spent! AND Vacation Guard spent $841 to get free praise from me on this site which many TS people read.

If you buy it, read the contract carefully and follow it to the letter if you think you will have a claim.

Good Success with Vacation Guard

I have had good success with 4 claims with Vacation Guard over the last 3 years. Three of the claims were for illness of my wife and I while on vacation. The other was for an immediate return home for a death in the family. I give them an A+ for honoring the claims, however, the information that they require can take some time to put together to submit a good substantiated claim.

This is good news. I just got my renewal notice from VG and was wondering how reliable they were. I will definitely be renewing.

Thanks for the update. They will get me as a customer in part due to their integrity in honoring your claim.

I hope to have the check in hand soon and will report it when it comes.

With that said, be careful to read their rules exactly and save all receipts of your loss. The sad thing about insurance companies, is that I assumed they would not pay and I was prepared to sue in small claims, report to the BBB and TUG as well as filing a comkplaint with the insurance commission. It is sad that we have to look at companies with this attitude. Look at the people who are signing up because they treated a customer well.

Many companies go down the tubes because they gauge us over and over. Maybe Hilton will learn that hitting us with fee after fee doesn't make us want to purchase more from them. They lost me with their guest fee to send my parents to the property I actually own. They took my fee, but lost a customer.
