Almost reading to make our reservation for Lagunamar for the end of September. Prefer a premium one bedroom, which seems to be what is available. Is there such a thing as a standard one bedroom? If there are two different categories, what is the difference? Are the one bedrooms all lock-offs?

I know that what locations people like is subjective, but does anybody have an idea where is a nice location to request? I know a request is not a guarantee, but I will at least request a high floor. End unit? Section of building? What do people like?

Premium referes to the season, not to the unit. As far as I know, all 1BR units at WLR are identical...except for location.

(We own a 1BR Premium, but use if to get 13 nights in January...before the premium season starts.)

No, premium refers to the unit. Look at WKV. That has a premium 1be and a standard 1br.

"Premium" isn't a season - it's part of the official villa description: "One-Bedroom Premium Villa"

The seasons at WLR are Platinum Plus and Gold Plus

I believe nearly all the units are lock offs. The studio premium, one bedroom is much smaller living space, with a much smaller refrig, only two burner cooktop, and no private sleeping space. It's a studio. The larger one bedroom premium villa has a much larger kitchen, four burner cooktop, regular sized
refrig and a private bedroom. The studio is doable but the one bedroom premium is luxury for two adults.

We prefer the older part of the resort, buildings 1-9. The landscape is more mature and the pools are nicely designed. The newer structure is has the adult only pool. 99% of units have on ocean view. I think there are a very few with the lagoon view. Buildings 1 and 9 are close to the ocean and may be harder to be assigned.

The resort looks directly to the east, so morning and afternoon sun on the balcony is a plus minus.

Conceirages are very helpful. Its a very nice resort, enjoy.

A studio is really nothing more than a "normal hotel room" + a small cooking space. I hesitate to call it a kitchen. I agree, the one bedroom is much more luxurious, and that has a true kitchen. The resort is very nice. I am not aware of any units that have lagoon view?? I believe they are all ocean view in one form or another.

I stand corrected

I stand corrected. Our unit is a "Premium" 1BR villa in a "Platinum Plus" season.

Still, if there is such a thing as a non-premium 1BR unit at WLR, I am not aware of it. What would one of these things look like, if it existed?

Is a studio unit classified as a 1BR "villa?" That would seem strange to me.

The Studio is classified as a "Studio Premium Villa." See the link I posted above. They do this at the Maui and Princeville resorts, too - everything is "premium." It's just spin.

I would call it a "compact kitchen." Very few hotel rooms have as many kitchen amenities as the Westin Studios:

Except when they are 'Deluxe' or even better 'Premium Deluxe'... :D

Agreed - but there is no category below "premium," at the new Starwood resorts - "premium" is the new, "standard."

The studios also have laundry. Much better than our meager Marriott studios. I could easliy stay in a WLR studio for two weeks and be just fine. In Cancun we don't eat in the room a lot, so the smaller kitchen and fridge is just fine.

Here is a link to our photo album of our stay in a WLR studio in 2013.
