How much should I expect to receive from a "renting business" operator ?

Any do's and dont's from experienced sellers ??

Thanks--

Reservations made with RCI points cannot be rented - per RCI rules, so I don't think a reputable rental business operator would be interested.

Of course - there seem to be a lot of the "other kind" on ebay, so that might be a good place to look for a buyer.

Are you saying RCI will not let me reserve a unit with my points and then let a friend use it? The friend would likely pay me something, so basically I'm renting it.
I have done this with my brother, but his unit is in the "weeks" side not points.

An informal agreement between family members or friends shouldn't be a problem. Advertising and renting to strangers and bringing in a points management company to help facilitate rentals is something the exchange company will likely take steps to discourage.

I can see that they don't want a business doing it, but the post above said renting was against the rules. I remember the agents telling us we could rent it to someone if we didn't plan to use a year. Now that I think of it, the agent that sold to us said we could rent Getaways too, and make some money. She said that is what she does. But we all know they tell the truth.

Yes - renting exchanges or getaways, or any RCI products is clearly against the rules.

Advertising to the public is a good way to get caught - either RCI will see your Ads, or someone who finds out you are renting exchanges, may turn you in. We have had Tuggers who go caught, and had their account closed.

It doesn't matter what an entry level Rep. tells you - they cannot change RCI's published policy.

If you are just quietly renting to friends and family, you probably won't get caught, although RCI can monitor the number of guest certificates you get, and I'm sure that an excessive number will raise a red flag.

Renting RCI exchanges is explicitly against the rules. Was it an RCI agent that told you that? I would find it hard to believe if it was.....

What is an RCI agent? I thought all the agents you talk to at a resort work for the resort.

This was the original agent at Tahiti Village that sold us our week.
They were with Interval at the time and she told us we could get 12 Getaways per year. I said, what good is that, I don't get 12 weeks of vacation every year. That s when she said I could "sell" them. She pulled out a folder she had with copies of the Getaways and started telling us, "look I got this week in Aspen for a friend of mine, they paid me $600, way less than they could get and I made $300, I use that to pay my maintenance fee. You can do that over and over and you will never pay MX fee out of your pocket and you can make some money for your vacation"

Sounded like a good deal, until I got home and realized it would not be easy to do. Maybe just don't have enough friends.

She was not strictly "selling" them like on Ebay, but that is basically what you are doing.

This is a frequent sales lie used to get people to pay an inflated amount for a developer purchase. Most sales presentations at resorts are filled with lies to get you to sign on the dotted line and make the sales person a commission.

It sounded good, until found TUG.

I theory if you have a bunch of friends that like to travel, I guess you could get some Getaways for them and make enough money to pay for your MX fee.

Maybe - but getting a "bunch" of guest certificates may be a red flag.

I would even doubt that the sales person has maintenance fees, unless she bought them on the resale market. ;)
