Has anyone heard of this company based in Virginia? They say they have a corporation that is looking to buy timeshares in Mexico. they contacted me.
They say no up front fee - they work on commission.

But the price they may offer is extremely high and unlikely. And you only have 48 hours to decide (I think because they are only looking to buy x amount of properties - so they say).

I'm wondering if anyone here has heard of them or has had any experience with them?

NO ONE will cold call you to give you money. Period. If anyone wants to buy X number of Mexican timeshares, they can get a virtually unlimited number of them on eBay for nothing.

Their M.O. is to get you on contract, then the 'buyer' mysteriously either disappears, or some nebulous 'tax' or 'appraisal' or something will need to be paid, but of course you'll be reimbursed at closing, etc. etc. etc. THEN they disappear with your money.

Remember, no foreigners actually OWN any property in Mexico. All they 'sell' is the 'Right To Use' the property for a certain number of weeks. There is no deed, so no taxes or appraisal needed.

It's a scam.

This is a common scam - we hear the same story every day.

There will be a high upfront fee, and after they have your money, they will disappear.

Let's look at this logically - why would they pay you big bucks, when you can buy an unlimited number of timeshares in Mexico on ebay for $1?

*They may tell you there are no up-front fees - but that's just how they gain your confidence. Then, after they have you hooked they will come up with some bogus fees: taxes, escrow, title search, pre-paid commission - it's all baloney...

It's like someone you have never seen calling you out of the blue wanting to buy your house for 100x the value. It's not happening. The primary reasons people fall for it are 1) they don't realize the true value of the timeshare and/or 2) wishful thinking.

If it was true it would be like a money tree. Buy 100 timeshares on ebay for $100 and sell them to these people for $1,000,000. And repeat. But then again why don't "these" people buy them on ebay instead?

All that said, the best prices you can get from selling timeshares is in Nigeria. They have these tax credits that the buyers get. The only catch is that you have to pay the transfer tax before you get your money.

Thanks everyone.
You folks are just verifying what we already thought. But one can always hope....
I forgot about the ebay thing - right, no need to call people at all!

Thanks for the information about Nigeria. Are people really managing to do it? If so, how do you go about it?

I was just joking about Nigeria. There were quite a few general scams out of Nigeria. The most common one was a cold call or letter claiming money won but you had to first pay some type of tax or transfer fee.

Do as Denise suggests and try and give it away. I just gave one away myself. It took 6 months. You may have to re-bump and slowly sweeten the pot like prepaid fees.

It's not happening. The primary reasons people fall for it are 1) they don't realize the true value of the timeshare and/or 2) wishful thinking.

I would add a couple more reasons to that:

1) Owners are unaware that these scams are proliferating the TS industry. It would sure be nice if more, if not all, resorts would send out clear warnings to owners in their monthly/quarterly/annual letters.

2) Owners that want to sell have no idea how to go about selling. They probably bought at a presentation and learned how to buy but don't know how to sell. So when these scammers call claiming that, for a "small" fee of $800 they'll take care of everything from A to Z, it sounds like a great proposition.:annoyed:
