Can someone please explain to me the cancellation policy for SVO reservations? When exactly do they charge and not charge a fee?

I own two SVO timeshares that I bought as resales - both are voluntary resorts so I'm not in the SV Network. I never have to pay a cancellation fee. I think that's one of the benefits of not being in the SVN. I've heard that if you're in the SVN you have to pay a fee of $30 if you cancel a reservation but it sounded like it depended on who you get - some of the reps will waive the fee.

Have you registered at the Starwood website - www.mystarcentral.com? They have an online Users Guide that's pretty handy. Let me just add, that I have changed my Resv. outside the 24 hour window and haven't been charged the fee.

From the website:

Reservations Cancellation Policy

Reservations may be cancelled within 24 hours of making the reservation request without incurring the cancellation fee of $29, unless the reservation was made less than 30 days prior to the check-in day.

Cancellations or changes in reservations made more than 60 days prior to the check-in day will result in unrestricted restoration of the related StarOptions to your account for further use during that Use Year, although your related Home Resort Preference Period rights will not be restored.

If you cancel 60 days or less prior to the check-in day, you will still be able to make reservations during that Use Year, but only to reserve a vacation that is within 60 days of the arrival date.

If you fail to arrive on your reserved check-in day without notifying Owner Services, you will lose all the StarOptions associated with your reservation. Be sure to let Owner Services know if there is a problem prior to your check-in date.

If an owner is holding an existing reservation and wishes to cancel that reservation and convert to Starpoints, they must do so at least 60 days prior to the arrival date of the existing reservation.

I've cancelled/changed reservations at my home resort without charge as long as I was still within my home period. If the cancellation/change was less than 8 months away, I had to pay $29. If the new date for a change was more than 8 months away then I didn't have to pay the fee, even though the original reservation was outside my home reservation period.
