I am considering booking a studio in open season for a 3-4 nights. However, I am finding that the cost of the hotel is about the same as the cost of the timeshare. There are just two of us so a studio is fine. We never stayed at the Flamingo. Is there anything about the hotel or the timeshare that would make one better than the other.

We stayed in the Flamingo Hotel in October 2010 on comps from our Harrah's (now Caesar's Entertainment) play in Atlantic City. NEVER AGAIN! The room was dusty and dingy. Even for free it wasn't worth it. Next time I'll pay Open Season rates in HGVC Flamingo before I'd stay in the Hotel.

At the hotel, you'll be closer to the casino, the strip, the better pool, and most importantly, the buffet.

The rooms are quite nice, but still just a band hotel room.
If you want more a home-away-from-home type experience, go with the TS.

If you're an experienced Priceline bidder and plan on having a rental car you can get the Trump for around the same price as the Flamingo. Roomwise it's like a studio but luxurywise it's miles above. Also if you aren't an elite the Trump lets you check out at 4pm instead of 10am at HGVC, which is nice if you have a later flight. The downside is it's a bit out of the way but the do have free shuttles to the strip. We actually split our last visit between HGVC Flamingo and the Trump because of that late checkout option.

I haven't seen the rooms in the hotel, but the TS studio has a refrig, microwave, and jacuzzi tub. The first two are reason enough for me to choice the TS.

Thanks for the advice.

I am likely going to stay at the hotel. If I stay at the timeshare, I would have to change rooms since there are not four nights in a row available. The hotel should be fine anyway.

It depends how far you book in advance. When we couldn't stay with our RCI week in the HGVC Flamingo because of the 1 in 4 year rule I booked a few nights a 1BR. It was off season and a reasonable price but I noticed later that the price got up in time. Eventually the 1BR were sold out and the left over studio's would have cost me 50% more than my original booking in a 1BR unit! So beware to book well in advance! The TS property is much nicer and very quiet at night.
