We traded into Fairway Villas (Galloway, NJ) for a week in Sept. This will be our first time there. We are looking for suggestions for day trips while we are there and any suggestions for restaurants close by. We love the outdoors. We are planning to go to Cape May for a day - haven't been in 30 years, so hope the charm is still there. Also looking to visit the Forsythe Wildlife Refuge. We love seeing/photographing wildlife in their environment. We were in Philly a few weekends ago, so not interested in that. Also not interested in gambling and Atlantic City. We have plenty of outlets close to our home, so shopping is not high on our list. What beach is the nicest to go to? We don't mind driving a ways to get there. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also suggestions for rainy days. Thanks so much!

We've stayed at the Fairway Villas a couple of times. Our last trip to the Fairway Villas was two years ago.

Nearby Restaurants we liked:
http://www.gourmetitaliancuisine.com/
http://www.mexicorestaurantbar.com/

We enjoyed the bird walks with the Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO). They're a very nice group of volunteers.
CMBO Calendar of Events - https://community.njaudubon.org/Website/Pages/CMBO-Calendar

We normally do the walking paths around Cape May Point State Park & the Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows

Have a wonderful time :)

Have you read the TUG reviews of MFV? They are often a good resource for finding opinions and suggestions on things to do. We were there in March 2013 and, in a review, mentioned some places - Smithville, Batsto, Barnegat Lighthouse - that we enjoyed visiting.

In my review, I didn't mention our visit to the wildlife refuge. We were disappointed that the wildlife drive was closed for the season, I suspect due to budget cuts. We visited a small building with a gift shop that was manned by a volunteer. There was a dvd player for viewing a slideshow about the refuge. We enjoyed it once we successfully helped the volunteer figure out how to start the show.

When you were in Philly did you visit the aquarium in Camden? There is a small aquarium in Atlantic City at the Marina. My wife and I enjoyed a visit there a couple of years ago. Kids would like it.

No, I haven't read the reviews and didn't even think of it. Thank you for your suggestion. I will do that.

Also, when we were in Philly we did not visit the acquarium in Camden, but I will look that up. We are 2 couples 60+, so I will look at the websites for both acquariums.

Thank you so much for taking time to reply to our post. These are great suggestion.

Atlantic City Cruises in Gardner's Basin (AC) has several cruises each day. My favorite is the 1PM dolphin cruise - last week saw a pod of 100-150 of them.
(senior discount)

Good place for breakfast or lunch in Gardner's Basin (right near the boat) is Gilchrist's. Pancake lovers - try the blueberry. They get rave reviews.

In Smithville - Smithville bakery and coffee shop does a great breakfast as well. Good baked goods too.

Near the wildlife refuge is the little Noyes Museum (senior and AAA discount) - nice for an hour or so.

Restaurants near you and away from AC - Rams Head Inn and Smithville Inn.
I ate at both during restaurant week (March) and the two of us enjoyed both places.

Here's some Cape May Restaurant we've tried that were decent.

We had breakfast and several lunches here. It's not too far from Cape May State Park and the Meadow mentioned in post #2.

This is a walk up hot dog joint. We grabbed a couple of hot dogs and ate them on the benches along Beach Avenue). LOL, we ate here twice during our last visit.

I liked their drink menu. We sat at their outdoor bar and had several drinks and shared nachos before we had dinner at Hemingway's at the Grand Hotel (Hemingway's was ok).

Hubby said this place was good for breakfast when he did a Cape May birding trip with his Dad last year.
