WiFi In the Sky is Taking Off - from Reuters/ Travel/ nbcnews.com

"With satellite-based Wi-Fi, Internet speeds on jetliners are getting lightning fast. And airlines are finding that travelers expect connections in the air to rival those on the ground — and at lower cost.

But the fast evolution of rival systems and standards, such as Ku band and Ka band, pose a big question for airlines: Which one to choose?.."

Nice to have the option of using WiFi on a plane if you need it.

I frequently fly private for work (firm thankfully foots the bill), and i've enjoyed in-air wifi for quite some time. Nice to be able to stay productive while in flight, but the best part is making/receiving cell phone calls via free wifi at 30,000+ ft. (well thats the fourth best part, the best part is being able to arrive 15 minutes before takeoff, 2) no TSA/airport security!!!!! 3) the complimentary mini bar with top shelf liquor)

We've begun using it when available on select flights. I like Gogo, which is used by Delta. It allows me to buy a 24 hour pass and I can buy before we get on board UAL's version requires we buy it once we are inboard and in the air. Plus you have to pay for it on each flight. While the price is about the same, it's a pain to have to sign up and pay multiple times while in flight.

Balky WiFi Above the Clouds

Balky WiFi Above the Clouds - by Mike Tierney/ Business Day/ The New York Times.com

"...Count Mr. Salerno among a growing band of business travelers who welcome the option to remain on the clock while above the clouds. And with the recent announcement that the telecommunications behemoth AT&T would compete for contracts with airlines to provide Wi-Fi service on domestic flights, the skies are about to become a lot more connected..."
