I'm comparing Hilton to DVC. Been looking at Orlando Tuscany location for a home resort, 7000 points platinum season to secure a 2 bdrm.

Perusing the online postings it seems the lowest sales that meet my criteria are priced ~ $12k, whereas 5000 gold season points bottom out around $6K.

Are those numbers reasonable? A rip off? Not much out there on ebay.

While we're on the topic, anyone stay at both DVC resort and Hilton? How do they compare?

Thanks all!

Is there any reason you need Tuscany as your home resort? You can get 7000 point properties for much less than $12K if you look at Seaworld, or one of the Las Vegas properties. There is never a problem getting a reservation at Tuscany, so you really don't need to use your "home season" reservation period there (even for Christmas or Easter).

We recently had a report of platinum points going for as little as ~$1.00 per point ($1.50 is like last-year). So, a bit high. You may want to check out completed e-bay auctions.

You'll mostly find HGVC fans here. One advantage is that HGVC'ers can trade into DVC thru RCI ... and using HGVC's corporate access, you don't have to deposit anything before confirming a booking. You don't get the same Disney access, but you have a free-er hand to travel the world. The tie-in with Hilton Honors isn't all that, but the silver-tier is a nice perk.

Lastly, points are standarized throughout the system, so its how many you have not where you buy that makes the difference... 'cept for an extra 3-month reservation window for your home-resort.

We passed ROFR last week on a 4800 Plat. Seaworld for .635 per point. Another tugger also snagged 4800 Plat. at Seaworld and cleared ROFR at .604 per point. So yes, there are definately deals out there if you watch. :D

I bought HGVC at Las Vegas Karen ave property for $10,800/7000 pts, last year. I was able to trade into DVC for a two bedroom at Sarotoga springs 6 months out. Before I purchased a timeshare we had been to several presentations and HGVC was the best for us. with HGVC you just have to call one number to make all your reservations within the club and RCI. Trust me this is a big advatage over other timeshares. The only drawback that I see is that it seems difficult to book at Ohau. It does not matter where you buy with HGVC, we decided Vegas because maintance fees are the cheapest.
