After doing a lot of research with the assistance of this board and other sites, we purchased points at TreeTops for use with RCI. Our use year is July-July and the 2014 maintenance fees had already been paid. I thought that I paid the maintenance fees when the use year began, but I misunderstood, didn't I? We just received a notice about needing to pay our 2015 maintenance fees by Jan 1st. I just want to make sure this is correct. Even if fees are due Jan 1st my use year runs July-July?
Thanks for the clarification and assistance!

This doesn't sound quite right.

You don't actually buy RCI points, you buy a week that gives you some RCI points each year.

I have friends that own there with RCI points and their use year runs weeks 1 to 52.

You really need to call the resort to clear it up, it would be very unusual for you to pay your fees by Jan 1 and not use your ownership until July.

For my RCI Points ownerships, maintenance fees are due in a January... My use year begins November 1.

Yes... my 2014 "use year" just started Nov 1, 2014. I can still access my 2015 points now (borrowing)... but because I joined RCI in November, that's when my use year starts. I asked to change it but they said they couldn't do that.

I own at TreeTops. It is also in RCI Points.

Your use started in July because that was when your RCI Points account was established. Yes, maintenance fees are due January 1, 2015 for 2015.

My use year is also July-July because my initial RCI Points timeshare opened my RCI Points account in July. Even though I have added additional RCI Points timeshares during various times of the year, my use year was established when my account was initially opened. Yes, your 2014 use year will run through July of next year, then your 2015 use year will kick in.

Not all, but a majority of resorts require payment of that year's maintenance fee on January 1.

Use Year is different from ownership float.

Your friends' RCI Points timeshare at the resort most likely floats weeks 1-52, but the "use year" for RCI Points is completely different from the timeshare "ownership" float.

Nothing wrong with the circumstances that the OP asked about.

Thanks to you and the others for enlighten me. You are right, his unit is a floater.
