Should I rent out this week?

I'm trying to decide what to do with my 2015 week. . These are my options:

1) Renew with II: they will give me an accommodation certificate if I deposit by Feb. 15. But I have no travel plans and don't feel like planning anything right now. I could also deposit with a free company like DAE, but still haven't used my deposit from 2 years ago!

2) Place it on rental with QH: Not guaranteed; I don't know how many days the unit might rent or what percent they take (I'll call them tomorrow to find out).

3) Rent it myself: I've never done this and wonder if it's worth the trouble.

Do you think that week would be very popular? If so, how much do you think I should ask for it?

The Travel Demand Index shows that as being a high demand week.

I would look somewhere like Redweek to see what the average rental rates are for the exact rental.

I can't imagine why that week is one of the two in highest demand, but that's good to know! I'm not a Redweek member, so I can't see those rental details. Are there any other good rental sites?

Could it be.... Mardi Gras!?! Or Memorial Day?

If you are going to rent it, it's well-worth the small fee to join Redweek.

Red Week membership fee less than II fees and I have had good luck using them.

<snip> I'm not a Redweek member, so I can't see those rental details.

Redweek membership would cost you all of $14.99 per year; not a particularly heavy investment.

The RedWeek discussion forums are certainly lame and woefully uninformed (almost beyond belief or comprehension, IMnsHO) but the ability to respond to Redweek ads as a member might just be something worth $1.25 / month to you. It certainly is worth it to me.

Unlike TUG however, posting rental or sale ads on RedWeek is at an additional cost, imposed per ad, entirely separate and apart from the basic membership fee.
That additional cost notwithstanding, in those rare instances where I have sought to sell or rent out a week, RedWeek has consistently "produced" real, sincere and genuinely interested people (as opposed to the often semi-literate or marginally coherent scammers and spammers on "free" Craigslist). To me, it ain't actually "free" anymore if I have to spend time ferreting out unwelcome spammers and scammers, since my time certainly has considerable inherent value to me as well. YMMV.

Very few tire kickers on Redweek ... most are experienced renters and the newbies, mostly heard about Redweek from other timeshare renters or owners .

Now, I am NOT saying that you won't be asked if you will accept a little (to a LOT) less ... but pricing your interval for rent must be realistic.

As a shopper I have an issue being charged to look (so I suppose I am a tire kicker that won't waste your time) despite the fact the only critical information being withheld is the contact information.

You can see the pricing as well as completed listings - without joining, keep in mind if you intend to actually use Redweek, your costs of listing are significantly more (14.99 + 24.99) than the cost to contact the other renters 14.99 only

week 9 is the mardi gras event week> in 2015 Mardi Gras is Feb 17 I doubt that the op has a week 9, but if he does, Mardi Gras is a great rental

Jazz Fest is week 17 and 18

July 4 weekend (Essence Fest) is a popular week, as is week 52 (SugarBowl)

In my opinion there is no good week to rent in New Orleans except Mardi Gras and since Mardi Gras is on a Tuesday, the best week is actually the last half of the week before Mardi Gras and the first half of Mardi Gras week

other good rentals are weekends. You can get a good price for 3 or 4 nights, but the other 3 or 4 nights in the week are usually a waste.

So to answer the ops question...I would exchange through II get a week and another free week, for my own use.

She owns week 10, so maybe the Travel Demand Index is off by a week.

Thanks for your replies, I'm still thinking about it but now leaning toward exchanging. I've seen a few ads for mid-May weeks in the $900-1200 range, which isn't bad considering that non-owner direct rentals there are $275/night. But I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.
