I understand that the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico is a associate property hotel, but do they allow bookings 10 months out, or do they open rooms up in periods?

Usually there is always good availability. You can book at 10 months out.

However, they are doing construction now - which may cause harder to book reservations. Prime Christmas/New Years is harder to book.

I recently stayed for a week at Gran Melia Golf Resort in Puerto Rico and drove over to the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar to view it for a potential future stay. Wyndham Grand Rio Mar has a nicer sandy beach with ocean waves.

I liked both, but I preferred my choice staying at Gran Melia. I booked with RCI doing an exchange with points. There are 2 Beautiful pools at Gran Melia. No water slide. The Gran Melia has a full kitchenette - no dishwasher. Free parking for Vacation Club exchange, Free Continental weekend breakfast, Free drinks including wine and beer in the club lounge. Free use of Bali Beds at the club pool.

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar may be better for a family once they have the family suites after construction. I liked the pool and beach very much.

We visited El Yunque Rainforest too. Rent a car if you go. There is so much to see in the area and having a rental car was a big plus.

Spring Break (March, April) and Easter are very popular too. I checked in June for March and there was availability.

If you want a better or larger type of room other than a hotel room - (currently Wyndham timeshare owners get a hotel room - no refrigerator or kitchen) try Wyndham hotels website. You can try using the Wyndham hotel discount on their website to hold something with a nights deposit (example: junior suite or larger). More availability may open up later for timeshare reservations - especially after they are finished with construction.

Wyndham Rio Mar's food is very expensive. Pool food was very good and had decent pricing. We had lunch at Wyndham by the pool overlooking the beach and ocean. The restaurants menu prices were very pricey - so having a small kitchen or booking a hotel room with breakfast may be the better bet right now. You may be able to get a reservation that way?

My family recently went to Puerto Rico in mid June and had a wonderful time. We had beautiful weather!

Here are some articles I found regarding construction of timeshare type properties vs hotel rooms at Wyndham Rio Mar in Puerto Rico. It may be a good idea to wait and book a reservation for those? I am not sure when they will be finished?

Wyndham Rio Mar does have a lovely beach & pool! The weather was wonderful too!
