II request first - does partial match pause search?

I am wondering if others know more about this topic.

Here is my understanding about how request first works -
I have a request first for specific resort, minimum room spec and dates. II calls periodically and offers partial match alternatives, such as a different nearby resort. When the auto dialing system tries to reach me, my request first is put on hold with a partial match. After I speak to an agent to decline the alternative or enough time has passed, my request first hold is removed and searching for matches continues. During this time period between a partial match and refusing it, the system is not trying to find me my exact match.

Is this true? Could I be missing a perfect request first match between the time II tries to call me to settle for something else and me calling back to say no. This is how it has been explained to me by an agent in the past. Nowadays, I call this same agent to help me quickly remove these partial matches when they occur. I check my caller id, so I know when II calls and does not leave me a message.

I never heard about being on hold! We for many years used this because we love our resort in Lake Tahoe and most years went up for July 4th week so we either get what we want or we keep our unit.
They would put a hold for a short period on the unit they were offering so you could take it if you wanted but this had nothing to do with your request.

We always listed three or four choices and II would e-mail or call and ask about a resort that just become available that wasn't one of our choices. One year we took it because it was better than ones we selected. All but one time we always had nice exchange. One year they came up with nothing and we pulled our request. Within one day they called with our first choice but we turned them down because we had already booked our dinner for the fire works on Lake Tahoe .

All the years we spent with II we only used request first because we didn't care if we had the exchange because as I have told people on these forums for years buy in a resort you want to go to every year and you will always be a happy owner.:whoopie:

My understanding is that while they are trying to call you about an alternative choice, the system is paused from continuing to look for an exact match on your request. This could be a couple days if you missed the initial call. Not a big deal, and if there is an exact match that didn't go to someone else during that time, you might see it as a instant exchange during this timeframe or the agent may find it while they are talking to you. Good II agents will look first when they call you.
I usually call my favorite II agent to reject/clear partial matches when I see I missed II calling on my caller ID. I want to minimize time during which my request is waiting for partial match reply.
