Platinum Orlando, Branson, Williamsburg, NJ, and a few others are probably closer in trading power to Gold units at the Beach and probably even ski locations in the Marriott system.

In Hawaii early January, mid to late April and May and September- November are going to be your best bets. Mid January to mid April is still considered high season especially in Maui.

Thank you for everyone's replies.

....
From what i read here, even the deed is only 2br no lockoff, I can still reserve lockoff unit and get 2 II deposit?

.....

You OWN a 2bdr ... not a lockoff. You can NOT reserve a lockoff and split it. No 2 II deposits ... must have a lockoff.

Not true. With Marriott even though there is a deeded week and unit they are set up so you can reserve either a dedicated 2 br, a 2 br lock off as a whole unit and either keep it whole or lock it off later, or reserve the 2 halves separately regardless of whether you deed is for a dedicated 2 br or 2 br lock off at that resort.

This is not the norm for most systems. The MF's for the 2 br and 2 br lockoff units are the same.

I'm pretty sure if I call at 9am 12 months ahead, I can reserve a lock off unit.

The problem I like to know is the trade power for gold wr, would like to know your experience to use studio to get 1 bed.

Assuming you pass ROFR, make sure to check the schedule for when you can reserve - it is approximately 12 months but not necessarily to the day. Yes, there is an $80 fee to lock-off; and my understanding is as long as there are still lock-offs available to reserve you can do so even if you don't own a lock-off at WR.

I can't comment on gold trading power, as my WR unit is platinum (EEY). What I will say is that in my limited experience what I've noticed is that you may see one or two token larger units with a bulk bank for the studio, and that is about it (compared to the 1BR which can see a lot more). For example, I can only see studios currently at BeachPlace Towers with my WR studio, but numerous 1BRs and 2BRs with my 1BR. On the other hand, you could always purchase the EPlus retrade option should you book a studio and hope to catch a larger unit as you get closer to the check-in date (as you'll still usually get Marriott preference even in Flexchange).

Or if you put an ongoing request in for a resort with only larger units, you could get a match (but I believe your studio would only match a studio at MKO).

I'm pretty sure if I call at 9am 12 months ahead, I can reserve a lock off unit.

Just to add another update, Marriott just waived the ROFR for my EOY Gold Willow Ridge purchase. It seems I will receive the ownership soon. I was told by Marriott, they do not want to take back WR for whatever reason. So it can be a cheap bargain for someone wants to own Marriott, but getting exercised in other places like MGV or MGC.
