my current MF is 1200. I get 130,000 MR points for the exchange
So a little under a penny a point, or higher if you factor in your upfront costs. As much as I would like to value MR points at a penny a point (because I earn 1 point per dollar spent on my Marriott Visa), it's rare that I find redemptions that are worth that.

I am not using the 499 per night rate because under no circumstances would I have paid that rate for a 5 night stay in Chicago.
Glad to see someone else saying this. So few people see the logic in this. They'll use points to get miles and use miles to get first class flights to Europe and say that the flight would have cost $10k if they had paid cash, so they got 10 cents per point in value, or something crazy like that. That's only true if you would have paid $10k for the flight if you couldn't use points/miles. I always compare to how much I value something compared to ALL of the options I would consider.

BTW, since you were staying 5 nights, you should have looked at a travel package, as you could have got a large number of airline miles along with the 5 night hotel stay. It's really about the only GOOD value with MR points.

There was a pretty lengthy discussion on this topic in this thread. Not sure why you didn't post this there since you well invested in that discussion?

And that's why my MR Visa usually sits at home and doesn't get used, the reward just isn't good enough. I use the free night to more than cover the annual fee.
