I rec'd a call from HGVC today (came from 407 area code). The guy offered me to buy back my recent resale purchase of HGVC on strip , LV and sell it back to us (according to him no exchange of any sort of cash will be involved) and upgrade us to Elite status.. anyone know what this may be about?

Thanks

It's about HGVC trying to relieve you of a big chunk of your hard earned cash! :D ;) :)

We sat through a presentation recently and they wanted to do the same for us. Of course for us to become elite, they wanted $55,000!!!! Minus the trade ins and incentives, it boiled down to around $30K for the "privilege" of becoming "elite".

I agree with Ricoba.

First, do a reverse directory check on the # -- just enter it in Google. Or call the # to see who answers.

Second, the only way I could see HGVC doing this for no $$ is if you took a major hit on points... i.e. a silver 1BR for a platinum 2PM, or if in fact there is $$ involved... typically, they pay market value for your unit and sell you another at retail (possibly with financing).

Its a typical ploy to suggest that you need the cachet of being a "real" HGVC owner... which you do not.

Got the same call... but was told not to share it with anyone because... well you know... it was all a hush hush deal as not to 'anger' those buying at development prices.

Oh for crying out loud....are you serious?

If so, that's just plain ridiculous of the sales rep to say that!!!

I agree....the only thing special about what HGVC has to offer for their title of "Elite" is an elite ego and stupidity. There are so many other ways to achieve HHonors status without spending tens of thousands of extra dollars on a timeshare. We own over 25,000 points (all resale) and always are been treated the same if not better then other guests in the resorts where we stay.

I got a similar call from Hilton, but the details of my offer seem different than those mentioned above…

They said they were offering a new program were they would buy back my current resale purchases at the price the original owners paid. Then they would use those funds to purchase new timeshares that would qualify for elite status. Most of my resales were purchased some time ago when the prices were significantly lower than they are now, so there would still have been a gap of well over 25K. If they changed it so they were offering current prices for the buy backs, it might be enticing.

I'm guessing that the number is legit. All of the (quite valid) dealings I've had with HGVC have come from Central Florida, except the specific negotiations directly with the folks at West 57th/HCNY. I'd say that the call is legit. As to the deal- what everyone else said :)

Cheers.

Quite serious... I had to promise... Looks like I broke my promise huh..:ignore:

As always I told them we'd consider more Hilton points once Hilton proved to us that they were committed to building units in areas other than the big three. And no, I don't really count NY considering the restrictions and point values to get in there. For a family, we need to make plans many months in advance.. not 60 days. It's virtually useless.
