I'm trying to trade my Palm Desert DSVII 12/07 week for one of 2 weeks in February 08. Would like a warm weather destination--requested Aruba, St Thomas, and St Kitts as trades. Any reviews on the relatively new St Kitts timeshares? I don't see any in the review section. Also, what do you think my chances are for the trade--I deposited the DSVII week about 6 months ago?

The II Marriott rep thought there was a reasonable chance of a trade coming through. Do you think that is the case? I will wait a month or so, but at some point I guess I'll add some more warm weather destinations including DSVII or my other home resort of Ocean Pointe. Any other suggestions--Hilton Head would not be warm enough at that time of year, Orlando has no appeal to us--4 50ish adults. Hawaii, I imagine would be a difficult trade for a Marriott, and it is a long way to go from PA for one week. Ft Lauderdale doesn't seem all that appealing, would probably prefer Ocean Pointe. Any other suggestions, Marriott or non-Marriott. (We've been Marriott owners for about 5 years or so and so far have only traded for Marriott resorts since they are a known commodity).

How long ago did you request? Most Tuggers say you should request at least 12 mos out. They have to get the unit to give it to you and we are only 7 mos out now. A Dec 7 week is not the stongest but Marriott priority will help you. Only giving your request 1 more month sounds iffy at best. Patience is the key if you ask me. Did you lock-off your unit or give the whole 2 bed?

Good luck

I just made the request a couple of days ago. I had deposited the whole 2 BR unit. In the past we have traded Ocean Pointe for Aruba (in early June) and Palm Desert (spring break week). In each case we made the request about 6-7 mos in advance, but didn't hear anything until about 5-8 weeks before the trip.

I imagine that Aruba in February is a very tough trade. With only 7 months lead time that mioght be difficult. St Thomas may work and St Kitts is so new, are they open yet? the timeshare section not the hotel?

You might try Gulf Shores or St Padre Island or Sothern California, Cancun.

Good luck.

Also, you might try the Disney Resort in Curaceo or Puerta Vallarta, Costa del Sol.

Since you want only 1 of 2 weeks in February I think you'd be best expanding your list of acceptable trades. If President's week is one of those weeks it will be VERY hard, since some of the schools are off that week. It is much harder to trade into Aruba in Feb. than in June.

Will be making my first trip there in a few months so I can't offer first hand experience, but the Royals in Cancun are supposed to be very nice; that offers you an additional 5 resorts to request.

I don't think there is a Disney Resort in Curaceo or Puerta Vallarta, Costa del Sol.

No word from II yet. Will consider adding some more warm weather resorts in next few weeks--perhaps the Royal resorts in Cancun as well as our home resorts in Palm Beach and Palm Springs. The II trading system is still a mystery to me. In previous trades we've typically heard relatively close to the time of our trip--I guess there are a lot of fairly last minute deposits.

Would still like to see a review of the St Kitt's Marriott.

While not a formal review I will give it a try as we just came back last week. First, everyone we spoke with said the same thing the units are limited and trades are few and far between. They are actually changing ancillary buildings originally used for hotel rooms into 2 bdrm units.

Well we lucked out getting a last minute 3 bedroom for our 1 bdrm MMC. The unit was huge (I believe 2089 sq/ft) and was everything you would expect of Marriott.

The facility is still geared towards the hotel crowd and a general count of towel stripes at the pool indicates most visitors are still hotel guests. It was not crowded at all and the beach had a cabana for anyone who wanted one.

They are in the midst of developing the town for cruise ships and they are to begin docking in October of this year. The townspeople are very very sociable (only 40-50K on the whole island) and its a small town feel.

The beach at the Marriott wasn't huge but was adequate. Be prepared that all the beaches including the Marriott are public on St Kitts. This means Vendors. They were polite but omnipresent. We personally prefer the sand and beach on St Thomas but the kids enjoyed the water. Same amenities as every Marriott with a nice "little" casino. I only played a bit but felt the machines were tight. The onsite restaurants were average we felt and probably overpriced. We enjoyed the off site fare at leas as much for the atmosphere. It is definitely the biggest hotel on the island and very close to the airport.

Things to do:

1) Catamaran to Nevis (the adjoining Island). Trip over then a leisurely visit to the 4 seasons. Not a day long destination otherwise.
2) Island Tour: 80 dollars US for 5 and well worth it just try and pick someone who is knowledgeable. The hotel staff can help.
3) Shiggity Shack: Simple island fare for dinner. Try and make it Thursday night as they have a fire eater and bonfire.
Shipwreck: Nice lunch stop with the option of snorkeling.
4) Brimstone Fortress: British fort with wonderful views of the Island.
5)Black Rocks: Lava flow remnants on the island. Beautiful.
6) Turtle Beach: Snorkling and a bit of white beach.
7) Monkeys: Verde monkeys are out in the early mornings on the mountains.
8) Caribe Batik: A fabric technique and a nice little stop for shirts, dresses and "art" made on site.

That should get you started but again the trade from what we heard was a miracle. Good luck
