Thanks to this forum and other resources I was able to secure 259,000 points via Ebay for $300 about 2 years ago. Its been great and we've loved it!

This week my young family of 5 is at Bonnet Creek. We just got done with our Owners update mtg for $125 and made it past all the hard selling (but seriously these are the nicest sales people vs other resorts [read: Williamsburg, VA])

New programs, new ways to get your money... yadda, yadda, yadda... little was new in the presentation.

I do have a few things that concerned me and I thought I'd ask here - cause I didn't get a straight answer there (after being pasted through 2 sales people and a manager who is a resale specialist!!!)

Here's the quick hit of what i was told: Since Wyndham started Pathways resale points are going away and/or wont be worth what they are now?!?!
What does that even mean? Is this true? It sounds fishy to me
(presentation rep - said access to CWA will be closing soon due to limited stock)

On my "members account details" that i was able to slide off the table and take with me this time :)
several things were made an issue!!!
1. member number starts with 999
2. P-ID
3. Resale Code

I don't have a P-ID number - which would allow access to their special programs, referral rewards and converting owner points to reward points
(should I care about this as I don't think I would use it anyways!)

They made a HUUGE issue about my resale code still being "no". I feel kinda foolish that I did offer up the information that I did buy resale. They all asked where. I tried to avoid a direct answer till they point blank asked if it was Ebay.

Does any of this matter much? they tried to get me to bite on the smallest package around $10-$12K to make my account a "real account" :annoyed:

I like the $100+ gift cards so I can treat my family to nice fun meal out. We travel on the cheap and try to be as frugal as possible. As long as my ARP stays at 13mths I think I'm good with how I'm using my points (for a place to sleep). Am i missing out on something super special?

So I'm curious about this info I just heard today and I'm curious if I should be using my points for more than just renting a suite (which is why I initially bought in) Also, should I share about buying resale - how do you all of you handle that question and the update meetings?

Oh and it doesn't look like we'll be able to use worldmark or shell resorts (would be nice, but not a big issue) but we do have an RCI account... I'm still figuring all this stuff out!

Thanks for your thoughts and advice
~ Matt

They've been telling one variation or another of this particular lie for a long time. Resale points aren't going anywhere unless they start buying them back, and your points will pretty much always spend just like they do now.

I don't have a P-ID number - which would allow access to their special programs, referral rewards and converting owner points to reward points
(should I care about this as I don't think I would use it anyways!)

It's generally a very poor value to convert your points to anything else. The best and most cost-effective use of your points is using them for wyndham stays. Someone asked in another thread last week about using Plus Partners (the P-id) to use their points for a disney admission ticket. It was 43,000 points for a one day ticket, so that's about $250 in maintenance fees for a $105 ticket

Also, should I share about buying resale - how do you all of you handle that question and the update meetings?

It's simple - I don't go to the updates. :)

You'll generally find way more accurate information here on the board than you'll ever get at an "update"; why waste your precious vacation time sitting through a thinly veiled sales presentation?

Thanks for the info Scott!

I'm glad to hear its still best advised to spend my points on why I initially bought them... for wyndham stays!

As for closing off CWA --- they just get MORE inventory all the time from the defaults by Fixed Week and floating week owners ... they are dying off quick and the relatives are not interested in paying MFs after all these years of the parents letting them roost for FREE.

Just remember, that ONE TIME PURCHASE MONEY of $300 for 259K in points is about the right sum of a monthly LOAN payment on a developer purchase of that number of points on a 15 year loan. Yes, either way, you would be paying MFs ... the different is 15 years times 12 months each year times $300 monthly EQUALS $54,000 ... certainly, a sum of money YOU & WIFE should be putting NOW into your retirement funds...

And how much would it grow over another 15 years while you are working ... SAVE FOR RETIREMENT WHEN YOU ARE YOUNG!

Trust me (and Linda) CWA is not going away,, In my opinion CWA is the future of Club Wyndham... CWA has been growing bu leaps and bounds. not long ago we know over 400 units were put in cwa, (at 50 weeks a year and an average 150 points per week thats like 3 billion points... add the foreclosures that Linda mentioned and the rumor that wyndham is buying back contracts (deed in lieu) ...No Cwa is not going to close down...not any more than fixed weeks at the old Fairfield resorts went away.

Re 999 account numbers, it means nothing except to the sales staff....it tells them that you will be a more difficult sale. By the way, my VIP account has a 999 number, and they still deliver my USA today every visit

I still like my 20+ Wyndham FIXED WEEKS --- so nice to KNOW I have That unit THAT week -- in South Florida during the WINTER SNOWBIRD SEASON .... so nice, no CWP fees, etc. So nice, no booking window.

I suspect that in the not too distant future, Wyndham will try to get all of the owners to trade in their deeds for equilvalent cwa points, for a fee of course.

You are correct that you are not missing out on anything regarding P-ID. I believe that's the code for Club Pass, which would allow you to trade into Worldmark (leftovers at 9 month mark) for a $99 exchange fee. If you want to stay in Worldmark, you'd be better off trading/renting from a Worldmark owner or buying Worldmark credits.

8 Shell Vacation Club resorts became affiliates recently and are available to you just like they are to everyone else, resale or not.

Enjoy the $125. Tell them you keep your financial transactions private for security purposes and you won't be disclosing anything regarding how you came by your ownership. Or for laughs you can tell them, in a loud voice for the benefit of the rest of the room, that some guy paid you $2000 to take it because he was so desperate to get away from the ever-rising maintenance fees. This sometimes encourages them to get you into gifting quicker, I'm not sure why?

greed

The Wyndham sales team makes their money off the greed of owners. Anytime I've been to an owner update I tell them that I average about $85 per night to spend my vacations in 2Br units over the course of a year. They always respond that this is good but I could do much better! I reply that greed makes middle class people poor. I'm already winning so I'm happy with what I have. Some people are always looking for a better deal and those are the people the sales staff prey on. Before going to a sales meeting always remind yourself that you are already winning.

Tell them you got the points from your mother and her 2nd husband or was it her 3rd husband. Just remember, they might go look up the deed and ask, Joe and Jane Smith? Be prepared, GO READ YOUR DEED ... and know the names. Say, yes, Joe & Jan ... but mom goes by Jan ...

And then chuckle each time for the next 10 years, with HOW is Jan doing? Has she been back to the resorts with you?
