First time at looking to use my HGVC points for an exchange and I have some questions:

If I have both rescue points and regular club points in my account, when I make an online RCI exchange, is the system smart enough to take my rescued points first as opposed to using my Club points?

Or did I need to call to make sure a counsellor manually does that?

2nd question: My rescued points end at the end of 2015 but the exchange I am looking at is for 2016. Reading the info on the HGVC website, it says rescued points can only be used for an exchange in year. So does that mean for a 2016 exchange, I would have to pay a fee to deposit the rescued points first before doing the exchange? Seems counterintuitive

Last question: If I make the exchange using rescued points, if I can the exchange in the future, do those points stay deposited with RCI or get returned to my HGVC account? or does it depend on when it gets cancelled (ie. before or after the end of the life of the use year)?

I know if you want to use bonus points, you have to call.
For all other points, I believe the system handles it automatically for RCI. Perhaps another TUG member can confirm

You can setup an ongoing search request without making a deposit.
They isn't an extra fee to use your current year's points for a 2016 or 2017 RCI exchange.

HOWEVER if you're unable to book your RCI Exchange before the end of the year, you will need to pay a fee to deposit them into RCI before your Rescue points expire.

Anytime you deposit HGVC points into RCI, they can not be returned.

If you simply make a RCI reservation (without depositing) and cancel your reservations later, non-expired points will be returned to your HGVC account. You will have the option to deposit expired points into RCI for a fee.

The Rules under "Rescued Points Deposit say that Members may "rescue" points for reservations for RCI reservations for travel in the following year only. However, under "RCI Deposit," Members may deposit remaining “rescued” points into RCI for future reservations from the date of deposit through an additional calendar year. A Rescue Fee applies.

... which means AFAIK, it's not automatic... you need to pay to to pay a fee to deposit "rescued" points for RCI travel next year.
Although, you could try it, and if the system doesn't do it for you, then call and say: "I meant to use my rescued points."

"If a reservation is cancelled and points previously deposited to RCI were used to secure the reservation, those points are considered expired and will not be returned to your RCI account."
