I always wonder how some of the "lower end" hotels/motels can, and do, already give their guests free internet and wi fi? :D It seems the "nicer" the hotel, the more things they feel they need to charge you for. :ignore:

Yeah...gotta agree with Luanne & posters at the article site...although it's nice, Hilton's pretty far behind on this one when most everyone else is already offering access for free.

Nicer hotels that cater to business travelers can nickel and dime their guests because a lot of it just gets expensed. The guests really don't feel it out of pocket, so they don't strongly object to these charges. Budget hotels have different types of travelers that are more price sensitive to stuff like 75 cents local calls and fees for gym usage.

That's why it is very annoying when a Hilton or Hyatt in a resort area with mostly leisure travel still nickel and dime their guests. I'm paying for that $15 for internet out of pocket and don't like it one bit.

With the proliferation of 3G 4G smart phones, Internet access at hotels has jumped the shark.

I already got a phone I could tether so I didn't have to pay for internet access. Most of the Hilton group already had free internet anyway.

I really got ripped at the last Omni I stayed it though!
