DW just visited Westin Riverfront and was charged $25 (!!!) per day for parking on a VSN StarOption reservation. Is that normal? I'm familiar with combination timeshare/hotel properties charging for hotel stays, but have never encountered this before on a timeshare visit.

We've been charged for parking at timeshares. Last one that comes to mind was in San Diego at a Wyndham. I guess we had the option to pay the parking or find alternate parking, just like you would with any hotel.

It should have been stated upfront though I'd think.

Did she valet or self park? I have never been charged for self parking at Riverfront on a StarOption reservation.

Granted it has been a few years since I last stayed at Riverfront, I don't remember having had to pay for parking. Maybe it is something new.

Just following up on my original post. I received the following response from VSE through the online message function:

"Please be advised, as an Owner reserving using StarOptions® there should not have been a charge for parking. For assistance with a refund, please contact the resort's front desk directly at 970-790-3000."

Nothing more annoying than having to chase down a hotel's accounting department when the charges shouldn't have been posted in the first place... :annoyed:

One thing to watch out for is that some of these resorts (WKORV, for example) give you free valet parking the first night. If you continue to use the valet, there is a charge, even it the property is your home resort. Self-parking is free, but valet is not.

I'm not saying this applies to your case, just something for others reading about this subject.

Good point.

In this particular case, DW was offered self-parking for $20 or valet for $25. She asked if there was a free option and was told there was not. For the $5 difference, she opted for valet.

To the resort's credit, when I explained the situation by phone this afternoon they apologized for the mix-up and refunded the entire charge.
